I'm keeping my opinion on the Cayman looks suppressed until Porsche make a Cayman Club Sport with a LSD, now that will be a track car I might just buy....

The 964 to me looks just as modern as the cayman in these pics, definetely better. From what i have read the cayman may be one of the best cars porsche has put out. But its still just a beefed up Boxter isnt it!!!

The Cayman is a great car. It's a shame the quality in the new Porsches just isn't the same. Oh yeah, and cutting-corners on the dry-sump can only make the true enthusiast cringe. I hope the values hold up better than the 996 and boxsters.

As for the implied complements, thanks! Those two cars are so very different it's hard to believe they are both pcars.

It's my unfactual opinion that the Cayman will attract a lot of new female drivers who have lusted to own a 911 but were unsure about the roll over rumors heard about the 911 handling around corners and ramps, etc. When Audi introduced their TT sport car a few years back, the only thing that has kept that line afloat has been the female attraction since most guys have snubbed this car. So I think the Cayman will be a real hit with the female day driver. At least that is the story I am using to convince my girlfriend to trade her Altima in on one.

Funny, I had Audi TT, which I thought looked great and drove great once massaged abit. But I bought it b/c my wife really liked it. Now I have this loud, stiff legged, lumpy sounding RSA - she's never ridden in it the year and a half that I've had it.

hmm, not sure if you are distressed or totally elated about your wife non interested in your outstanding RSA. I could live with that situation. My girlfriend is afraid of touching my C4 and I'm not encouraging her to do so.

family car, you are right, 964 and cay S are both great car and so are every other porsche.

regarding engine/exhaust noise, at WOT, the cayman has a higher pitch then 911's and it's actually louder then GT3 or 996 with PSE. i know b/c i can't pass sound at laguna in my cayman but was fine with 996 C2 with PSE or my GT3. cayman registered at 94.8db, GT3 at 89 or so dB.

i can't wait until a LWT cayman shows up.

Sorry - was there a car parked next to that gorgeous 911?

I did not even notice.

Thx Marc! I agree! Maybe thats why I posted to the 964 forum vs Cayman.

Seriously, my father in law and I are going to have it out at the track sometime soon. Before he was in his VW R32 and me in the b6 S4. I had it all over him, but now it's old vs new pcars. I will be sure to post pics and experiences when we get out there, but probably not for a month or two, we both have so much going on this month.

PS, w/o a secondary I didn't pass LS sound either! Solution: Short shift after 5.

Gotta confess I'm an Olde Fahrt who likes the looks of the 964 better than any of the new ones, but ... a buddy who checked out a couple of 964s for me drives a pre-G50 911 ... and described the C4 he checked out as a "grown-up's car." So there's always someone further up the hierarchy, ain't there? ;-)

Seriously, the Cayman is a really nice ride. Good handling, good sounds and such. He is still babying it and keeping it under 4k for now, but that thing has some potential. We will see as we are hitting the track next month.

kgorman, neat house, neat rides, looks like you have the real thing though, a 964 vintage! cheers, vk
