My 964 is a 1991 with the alarm brain under the passenger seat. I had to make a 2nd trip back to the shop this afternoon. The alarm went off again over lunch time. The fault codes were inclonclusive, so my mechanic switched the brain out with a spare to see if that solves the issues. We will see...

The reason I asked about the year is that prior model years (like mine - 1990) used another 928 style brain which didn't log codes. There was a recall/bulletin sent out by Porsche back then to install a washer under the glovebox switch to avoid false alarms. On mine I discovered that the glovebox switch was disconnected. I've since connected it up and there doesn't appear to be a problem. Since you isolated each switch so that there is no way the switches can be making contact then there is something else causing your alarm to go off.

Unfavorable assembly tolerances in the glove compartment door/lamp switch may cause unintentional activation of the vehicle alarm or excessive current draw which could lead to a discharged battery.
Repair Information:
In vehicles produced after October 1991, a rubber washer, Part Number 999 025 209 40 was installed between the hex portion of the glove compartment lamp switch and the opening in the knee bar. The installation of the rubber washer helps to maintain a more favorable tolerance between the glove box door and glove compartment lamp switch.
The rubber washer may be installed in vehicles produced prior to October 1991. It is necessary to remove the glove box to install the washer. Installation of the glove box switch is correct when the glove box lamp turns off before the glove box fully latches in the closed position.
General Information:
As of model year 1992, a new switch, Part Number 964 613 602 00, was installed. This switch can only be used in model year 1992-on vehicles.

Hey Guys, thanks for the additional information. Don't you just love electrical problems!
The saga continues... Switching the alarm control unit with one from another car, fixed the problem. Furthermore, when we put my alarm unit in the other car, it started exhibiting the same issues I was having. After driving around with the borrowed alarm unit for a few days, I finally had to return it to my mechanic yesterday. Before we put my old alarm unit back in my car, we replaced the fuse just in case that would have some effect.
Here's the interesting part...So, far the alarm has not gone off again. I am still thinking about trying to find another alarm control unit just in case the issue reappears. But, as of right now, things are back to normal! Thanks again for listening!
