Tx for all the replies. The one that Burgass posted has the stripes I was thinking of. I probably passed the age limit for such stripes but I think I will try them out this spring. Just hope the paint wont come off when I peel the stripes off again.

Yeah!! Go for it Kris!!.. Looking forward to the photographs!!..
The clear coat protecting your met. paint is very durable, no risk in theory to peel it off, unless it’s been repainted and re-clear coated to a badly preped surface. I plastic pin-striped my MX5, removed them after a few weeks and there was no problem, Should work... I hope...
Good Sunday,
Marc...

PS. Frejus Tuning Show, early AM and wet...

Hey Kris, have you ever plastic striped a car before or are you going to have it done. It’s actually very difficult to do. If I can give you any advice, do it on a cool day using soapy water that will not evaporate so at all times you’re working on a wet surface that has already been marked by masking tapes prior to striping. You must have a thin plastic blade that you work over the plastic surface as you’re applying the strip eliminating the air that’s trapped between the surfaces. Four hands are better then two... As one is rolling out the plastic and keeping everything wet, the other is working over the surface... There must be something on the net that will give you a better idea, check it out... I used to do this on the modern plastic yachts, and it was always a pain in the ***...

I used to work summers in a workshop in the UK when I was teenager (80's). We often would put stripes along customer cars (mainly Ford XR2's and XR3i's etc) It was much, much harder than it looked. We used the exact method Marc describes above.

Hey Howard, having worked in a body-shop must have given you a good insight on restoration. Now I understand how you were able to re-spray your red aft plastics so methodically. When you were explaining the step by step process that was experience talking, now I understand...

One of the Greatest Cars... Ford Escort XR3i, at the time a fantastic motorcar with simple lines, great running gear and those "a la" original Ford Mustang Cobra or GT500 side stripes, but of course marked XR3i... Be it the coupe or convertible in white with red stripes, FANTASTIC!!.. I remember them well...

Yeah, the 1980’s... Thanks for the flash-back Howard... Almost 06:00,.. I better walk my dog before he does some re-spraying on my P-car tires in the garage...

Anyway take care,
Marc and Cooky (Jack Russell).

PS Do you have a dog...

The stripes have an actual use in racing since they increase the visibility of the car. They make it stand out at a quick glance. It is a safety issue. So they are a good idea on the track, but on the street? I think it would make a 964 look a little silly. After all what do you have to prove?

Well, tbh not really. My Dad was in the motor trade 30+ years and owned a dealership and a string of petrol stations (amazing to think he ended his life a cannon in the CofE...but I digress). The workshop was a part of his business. I was a mere dogsbody over the summers - never allowed to do the cool stuff...however plenty of time watching and [hopefully] learning!

I was never really much of a 'boy-racer' and am really loathe to admit this, but I do remember once as a lad having a real yearning to own an amethyst XR3i cabriolet (thank god taste matures with age).

Curious to know what prompted this question? I had dogs all my life until I got married. I would really LOVE another but its just not practical and wouldn't be fair on the poor thing given the lack of time we have available. I do however think a dog is very useful thing for teaching kids responsibility etc., so I have told my children I will re-asses the policy in a few years (once they are big enough to do the poop-cleaning, walking etc. )

kris, like the other respondents, its YOUR car, i have 2 comments: 1. wouldn't this "mark" you with the local law enforcement agency?; 2.does your car have the "*****" to race every riceburner that you encounter? cheers, vk

1/ I live in a very rural area where police is not really a concern, if I would be driving a Deutz-Fahr tractor with stripes they might look up.
2/ Luckily we don't have such problems here, if I get challenged it's by BMW diesel company cars.
I'll have to wait for the weather to get better before making a decision, the cold is fogging my mind. All the best.

ps: my neighbours daily driver, he looks down on me
