I am going to replace the distributors, rotors and spark plugs in the next few weeks as my car is coming up to 50k.
I was highly annoyed when the qoute i got from the local Porsche agent was NZ$770 (US$530.00).......so i purchased the "tune up kit" from ebays Drivingsource for US$220.00 shipped!
I feel that is a HUGE price difference and does make me wonder what sort of profit margin these guys work on.
Also, does anyone here regularly add injector cleaner to the petrol tank?

Never! Be careful with additives. I don't know the situation in Australia, but in the US the manufacturers are required to prove the emission controls last for 50,000 miles. The manufacturers leaned on the gasoline companies to provide clean gas. I have a 200,000 mile, 1986 Mercedes still running fine on the original injectors. I have not touched injectors on my 55,000 mile C2, and it runs and idles like new. No affiliation, but Chevron with Techron is what the manufacturers use to prove to the Government that they last 50,000 miles. I buy it when convenient, but don't mind using other brands as well.
The agri-business lobby in the US has tried for years to get the government to require ethanol in gasoline. That would create problems for 964 owners, and hopefully will not come to pass.
Regular usage, no. However, there are times when a tankful of Techron can be used to help clean out the entire fuel system. It's the additive that Porsche recommended years ago. I usually run one tankful a year through, after the tank of stabilized gas that sat all winter is used up.
In many areas of the country, additives like ethanol are standard fare at the pump. Thankfully, potential negative impacts are lessened on 3.2L and later FI engines, versus earlier CIS-based engines.
Thanks Bill, we dont really have the brand "Techron" here but a quick Google made it clear that the four major oil companies here have a similar (or rebranded to Vortex) product added to the fuel.
We dont "winterize" cars here at all. In my city it would be rare for the temp to go below 2C (36F) at night in winter and a max of 30C (86F) during the day in summer. As its summer here now and my car is in almost daily use i guess i dont need to add anything extra to the fuel system.
