The pad that goes over the motor weighs very little . Its a sheet of foam . On my 89 , it did not weigh even one pound .
Since my engine is out at the moment and the pad was staring at me I questioned removing it but was advised it "only weighs a couple of pounds, if that" and there would be more noise and heat so it wasn't worth the effort.

Sorry I didn't replace mine when the engine was out.....never entered my mind....it was never mentioned by the mechanic's........next time !! Harry do it with the engine out.
