Hi Mark,
Glad the car will be resurrected - and so quick too by the sound of it. Good pics!
If there's anything I can do let me know - stupid really but HK still feels like next door !
Good luck
Cheers

Are you skipping the sound insulation pad or is just not in yet?

The car is coming along nicely!
Was this part only on the 1992 and earlier cars? If I remember right, I remember checking if all recalls were done on my 1993 964 when I bought it, but now I don't remember....maybe I should call the dealer and have them run the VIN?

Hope that helps. If you NEED a photo I can take one later.

This thread is very disturbing so I want to check the resistor and balast before it's too late

Steve,
The ballast resistor in discussion is part 10 in the attached diagram. It's difficult to get a photo since there is virtually no clearance around that item to get to see it.
The resistor clips into the hard plastic plenum for the rear blower and the suggestion is to hold it in with a tie wrap around the plenum just to stop it falling out. If it's clipped in correctly there's not much chance of it falling out - but better safe than sorry!!!

That's the part alright - but you can't really tell if it's been replaced without removing it and checking if it has the bi-metal safety cutout. Yours looks like it's been there for a while so it could be an original. You would probably only be able to tell if it's the updated part by looking at the part number on it - it should be 964.616.550.02 if it's the later part.
