Default 964 Tip, help with a new sound - whine?

Hi,

I bought a '93 C2 Tip 6 months ago and so far so good but noticed recently a noise or more like a whine in 1st gear. It only occurs when I let off of the accelerator above 3000 rpms. The higher the rpms, the louder it gets. When I shift into second or higher, the sound goes away.

I read how bullet proof the transmission is but there is something definitely going on and I wonder could it be the transmission?

Another question, how do you check the transmission fluid? It had a 65k full service in 2004 by a Porsche dealer and it is at 73k today.

Thanks...Ron

There's a level indicator on the right side of the transmission, you'll have to get under the car, and if I recall you have to remove a small section of the underbody plastic to see it.

For the sound, take the RPM up above 3K and release the throttle, but in neutral to rule out the whine from the transmission...could be from the engine/fan/alternator, but due to road noise the whine is masked when in 2nd gear or above.
