Had a chat with TWG about this today, while discussing my new brakes (est£550 + vat)
He thinks no problem, drops straight in but needs 993 loom as suggested.
he said he has seen a 993TT motor going in to a 964 but didn't see it completed. That must be some ride.
He suggested using the 6 speed box and 993 vario.
So if the motor dies on me or a find some cash I htink I'll be going this way.
What do you think resale would be like?

On the other hand - to someone who was willing to buy it, I'd say a 964 with a 6 speed 993 motor would be worth more than a stock 964 motor.
I think it would just take a little longer to find the buyer - same as if it was supercharged.

Agreed, I saw the super charged car in one of the 911 mags two years ago.
nice looking car but it came up for sale and was for sale for a long time
But I guess I'm getting little change out of £5k so I think it would be a keeper for a few years

Porsche new that we would be putting 993 motors in the 964 so Engineering put 4 stud holes at each exhaust port on the 993 motor.
So to fit a 964 exhaust to a 993 motor you just have to swap the studs on one side !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Who needs kit cars !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To do the 993 motor into a 964 chassis you would need to swap out the wire harness from the engine to the DME under the seat.
The vacuum can from the 964 can be retained, 993 non vrams use the same set up and it can be used on a vram as well.
The 993 heads are set up for either 964 or 994 exhaust stud configration. To use the stock 964 headers(I wouldn't) just swap the location of the studs on the passenger side.
You can use 993 headers and make a custon muffler, leaving the cat off helps a lot in this regard.
or use B&B or similar headers, that is what I did.

Bill,
You really need a larger vac. reservoir than that. If you like I can find the VAG part number for the multiball reservoir that will fit up on the bulkhead.
The 993 standard part is the wrong shape.

A question about all this. I bought my car with 95 993 intakes and air sensor on it along with 993 cup cams, Fabspeed dual exhaust, cat bypass and it runs quite well according to all the "Porsche experts" that have driven it. How much more go would a 993 vario motor make and is it worth the value equation?
Since I did not spend all the money to do this to my car I am just wondering what is the best method starting from scratch?

I have seen back to back dyno tests on the same engine switched between the 2 intakes, the version chosen for permanant use was the '95 plastic intake w/ chip on a closely geared car.
My 993 is being built in the same way.

Is that your car Bill with the 993 in or one you know of.
Hows it drive? Got the 6 speed on it?
I saw a motor today for £5 UK, so I'm guessing inc box, fitting and some other stuff I'm upto £7k
TWG also had a 993 up at £22k, I suspect with a little chat and maybe £8K, I could swap.
Shame I didn't like the colour - LOL
SO given those costs it may be just as well to trade in and get some of the benifits of the 993

Love your car Bill, remember it from my pre 964 pelican days.
The wheels are to die for ,even better than those lyndsay ? racing 17" fuchs.
Just noticed youve got some serious brakes fitted-the discs look massive !

I'm glad to hear that C4-JohnO, like many others, I too would like to swap in a 993 motor when my engine needs a rebuild. No more valve lash adjustments and hopefully that constant machine gun noise! Don't get me wrong, I really do love the way our engines sound! Even my wife says it has a way of purring that all other motors lack!
