Question Road Trip Maintenance Survival Kit

Good Morning! New to the Porsche world(at least as a participant). Just bought a 1994 911 Cabriolet with 53,000 miles 3 weeks or so ago. Had a local Porsche expert, mechanic, PCA long term member etc. do a PPI which revealed the need for new brakes-rotors and a major tune up (due for but running great) and two front seat switches. That done I have now put my new toy in the garage, hooked up the trickle charger, inflated the tires to 50# and covered the car. That said I am chomping at the bit to get this car out on the road in the spring for some road trips. I have read the threads and other articles on Porsches and while I realize these may over emphasize the delicate nature of Porsches by discussing mechanical problems I get the sense I need to have more than a credit card in my car if I am going to venture more than towing distance from my mechanic such as one post that mentioned have a spare DME and oil and.... to avoid being stranded in the hinterlands where my John Deere tractor would be easier to find parts for than my 94 Cab. Having just sold my Harley to get the Porsche (deal with the wife...she doesn't know about Harley rentals :-) ) Im not afraid of repairs just wondered what I should bring with me for the 600 mile round trip road trips for spares or tools for this model year if anything. Maybe suggestions for search words since this has probably been discussed before! Also any suggestions for mods such as oil coolers etc that would make my mostly un-modified car more likely to live a long life. Thanks for any suggestions and pray for an early spring.

Welcome to Rennlist. You have come to the right place...........

An AAA membership, a spare DME, a credit card, some oil, maybe a spare belt and a cell phone are all you need.

Need more pictures!!!!!!!

Hello and welcome to Rennlist! For spares... Probably A/C and alternator belts, a spare DME relay, extra fuses of all amps, a basic tool kit (that comes with the car) and a cell phone with a charged battery! (Just in case!)

All i keep is some basic tools, DME relay (which I probably will never need again), fan belts and just go like I would do in any other car. These cars arent primadonnas. If you worry all the time about taking 600 mile trips and breaking down you will never go anywhere.
Have you posted the required picture yet

Thanks for the items for the list so far. Not sure about "the required picture" you mention jimq. Not one of those my Porsche will regret when it ends up on the internet I hope! As far as other pics I dont have a lot as I brought the car home between snow storms down our 15% grade snowy driveway and haven't wanted to start it multiple times in the 20 degree weather to get it out where I can get some good pics. I have a few but not sure how to insert or attach them here.

Have a look here (and if you convert to gif from jpg file size will be even smaller).

Found your reply to the other person you linked me to using the handy search function. Thanks for the link though. I wonder if I lower the pixel quality of my pics if I can make the jpeg conversion pics bigger and still stay under the 140kb size limit.

Got the tool kit and I think the tow eye but will dig in a little deeper (hey a chance to take the cover off) and check. Pump etc and tire there but haven't had long enough to test it all but should once it is warmer. I'm assuming the owners manual will show how to tow. Also good idea re the bag for the tire...I'm used to a pick up and Chrysler Pacifica that I can throw a flat in the back of!!! Again thanks to all for great help so far.

Might want to check your cig lighter plug. The one time I went to use my pump I found out it wasnt getting power. The plug had fallen off the back. A whole nother story on getting it back on

high visibility vest (free if you/someone you know works in construction)
disposable paper over-alls (free again)
latex gloves (guess where i got mine)
"booties" overshoes (like-wise)
big-black plastic bag for wheel-change (i've ditched the space-saver , so i can supply one of these )
old adidas carghoul that folds into its own pocket (free off my dad about 15 years ago)

thats my free tool-kit .

along with the original porsche tool-kit , i bought a leatherman tool and a mini-maglite (i use these at work anyway so they would have come free sooner or later
