It's time to sell

So far no interest - I took it off ebay until I've got hold of a Ford Ka for the g/f. Nothing from pistonheads.
I think these cars take time to sell, and I think this is not the best time of year. As soon as I have the Ka, I'll start advertising in earnest.

Dave
i think those reasons are good not to sell reasons!!
I have been looking at mine in the last few months, service £950, brake tomorrow est £550 (discs and pads x 4) and insurance in 10 days £590.
Thats £2k in 5 weeks and two rich for my blood.
But what am I going to do, 114,000 miles, great condition C4 but I would have to find somebody who wanted just that
Yous is the same, you could advertise for months and get no where then try for 1 day and get that golden buyer.
I think we are all in for the long haul, for better or worse!!!! Love em hate em but can't live without em - just like a woman.

The thing that convinced me 100% I want to sell is actually when I hadn't used it for a month or so. I fully expected that when I used it again, I would regret my decision and decide I should keep it. I was surprised to find that I didn't feel that way - I still knew it was time to sell.

I use mine evry day Dave so. Its not such a luxury item in terms of usage.
When i consider what else i might drive I'm still into 10K plus motors - Scuby EVo's Supra turbos etc.
Or, if I could find a good one, Mk1 escort either twin cam or rs2000 with fast road mods.

If it's done by a Porsche Center with OE parts it's a good price, otherwise if done by an independant with OEM parts it's a bit rich. You can normally pick up a complete set (mushrooms, pads, disks, new sensors and cables) for 350 uk pounds. It can be interesting to shop around, price differences can be huge for the same brand. Last year I paid exactly 247 pounds for Zimmermans and Textar pads, front and rear, I didn't take the wear sensors nor the mushrooms.

I'm not so sure it's expensive from an independent. Not long after I bought my car (so about 4 years ago I guess) I needed all new pads and discs. From an independent I paid £800 I think - and was told I was getting a good deal.
I stuck with the same place until last year when I decided my service bills were always a bit too high and moved (and had a much cheaper service).

I, for one, like to get a good deal when I can so when I shopped around I took into account that a qualified technician will need between 2 1/2 and 3 hours. It's not a difficult job once you finished with one disk, the rest goes much easier. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying that you're foolish not to shop around for the parts and do a bit of DIY but that's just the way I try to keep running this car affordable. Some people also don't want to 'mess aroun' with a vital part like brakes which is also completely acceptable, it just makes ownership a bit more expensive.

Hmmmmm,
I'm trying to do mine at the moment, but I'm bu66ered if I'm paying that amount.....I have the pads, just looking for drilled disks, best bet so far is £300 for the disks alone...still too much IMNSHO.

Kevin, you might want to send a mail to this guy Oliver Pruss , I didn't find the 964 crossdrilled but I did find a front and rear set, drilled zimmermans for a 993 at 219 pounds. Shipment for me was some 9 pounds, could be more to the UK but the crossdrilled 964 will probably be a bit cheaper. He's selling the normal Zimmermans at 165 pounds plus shipping including tax. Burgass from Sweden has also done biz with the guy and was equally happy with his professionalism.

Best way to save £££ on the brake change is to do it yourself. Its not really that hard and doesn't need an incredible range of specilaist tools - though the C4 probably needs a hammer for the brake bleed.

No need for a Hammer when bleeding the brakes, just a high pressure bleeder and a little note that you shouldn't forget to clamp the overflow hose
I wouldn't know where the Hammer would come into play, perhaps I overlooked something
