Oh yeah; shoulda said something about lights. Mine seemed okay, but I don't have silverstars.

my $1000 investment is going to pay for itself in 2 ways; cosmetically (worth about 50%) and handling (other 50%). I don't track the car, but would like to xcross it eventually. I don't get to drive it hard all the time either, so that's why cosmetics get such a high rating. I love the look, and will be addressing the spacer issue this weekend- Thanks to Marc Shaw.

Default Alignment and Corner balance details

Ok, here is the technical stuff:

Car height (in millimeters) to the proper measuring point on the frame of the car:
LF = 144
RF = 144
LR = 156
RR = 155

Weight distribution (in pounds) with a 210 lb driver in the car:
LF = 671
RF = 680
LR = 926
RR = 893

Total weight = 3170 with driver, 2960 without driver. Fuel tank was 3/4 full and I have 2 fairly heavy subwoofers mounted behind the drivers seat. Spare tire, tool kit and tire inflator were left in the car.

Rear alignment specs:

Camber:
L = -1.1'
R = -1.1'

Toe-in
L = +0'
R = +0'

Drive axis angle
+0'

Front alignment specs:

Caster
L = +4.1 deg
R = +4.2 deg

Toe difference angle
L = +5'
R = +5'

Camber
L = -0.5 deg
R = -0.5 deg

Toe-in
L = +5'
R = +5'

Interesting. I would have thought that corner balancing would have been more, well, balanced.

The rears are about 3.5% different, which seems okay, but the fronts are about 13% different. That seems a lot.

Not that I know whether this is good, or bad. Just an observation. I would have expected something closer to 2% differences.

What would constitute a poorly balanced car? Anyone know?

Too much engineer in me, I guess.

Congrats on the mods. That's gotta make you happy!

Cheers,
Dave

rr-lf = 893 - 671 = 222
lr-rf = 926 - 680 = 246

Jeremy - can I inquire, how much for the alignment and corner balance, and was it a dealer or indy?

what does your calculcation tell you about the setup?
If we are going to talk about the corner balance , it is not just adjusted left -right .
The diagonal also matters .
The RF = 680 , LR = 926 is holding up more than the LF = 671 , RR = 893 .
If you car were a table , two legs on one diagonal are longer .

Your set up is not perfect , but far far better than 99.9% of all the other cars on the road .
Your car is set up better than almost all brand new cars .

The corner balancing adjustment is done diagonally, however the tolerances are 20lbs left to right.
Based on the provided figures the front is well within tolerance and the rear possibly shows the impact of the "2 fairly heavy subwoofers" of around 11lbs maybe a little more.
There are NO tolerances provided diagonally.
There is a maximum allowable weight of 1499lbs (680kg) over the front axles and 2315lbs (1050kg) over the rear axles.
The weights for this C2 Cab are 1351lbs at the front and 1891lbs rear. 42.6% front and 57.4%.
Perfect is 40% front and 60% rear and this job is within 5% so I would consider this C2 Cab to be pretty well balanced.
Its a pity that the ride heights before were not provided and the after "rear" ride heights were not measured at the correct place. Possibly the fronts were, showing a 31mm drop.
Ciao,
Adrian.

PS: The C2 Tiptronic uses the same weights. C4s are slightly different as are the Turbos and Turbolooks.

The porsche race shop that is doing mine in a week or so said it would be about $450-500. They are balancing 3 other cars for the Rolex 24 at the same time. Thanks for the numbers Jeremy! Sure dont want mine set to race trim!

Thanks for sharing Jeremy... those C2's are so light! My C4 cabrio with half a tank of gas, without me in it, is 3240lbs! Fatty!

Thanks everyone for your comments and insights. I wanted to try to share this entire experience with you (short of lots of photos). Some of you guys eat this technical stuff up, some don't care at all.
I figured I would share it with you so you could compare your own experiences with mine.

So for now, this case is closed............

I am going down this road very soon. Great info and REALLY interesting!
Good to see the numbers and the explanation from Adrian on the definition of corner balancing.

Now Jeremy just needs a new avatar pic

Thanks!
