Thanks for the push! :)
Today I picked up my 1990 C4. This will be my track car. I have a Boxster for going shopping!
Those who read my first post, probably remember I said 1989, well, let's just say I got confused with the Japanese way of counting the years.
First things first, here is a shot:
I've been waiting two weeks for this car, and am really happy to finally get it. Over here you need "proof of parking" or "shakoshomeisho" in Japanese, before you can actually buy a car. It's very easy to get, but takes time. While I was waiting, I decided to become a member of this site, and read (part of) Adrian's book. Best preparation I could wish for.
This car was really a great deal, all maintenance done, engine has been out to deal with oil leaks, read my previous post for details:
https://rennlist.com/forums/964-forum/240830-need-that-little-push.html
If it were a new car, I would have two complaints:
1. When I stop the engine, the car sits for a couple of minutes, and I start it up again, revs at idle are too low, and the engine stalls. After a couple of times hitting up the revs, it will start idle at a normal level and be fine. I will see tomorrow how it starts with a cold engine.
2. I can smell the exhaust gas inside the car, only a little bit, but I can smell it.
Tomorrow I will take it to one of the greatest tracks in Japan: Fuji Speedway. It has been re-opened this year in April, and has all brand new facilities. Been there three times with the Boxster and it is a great high-speed circuit, definitely scary. The long straight is about 1.5km and I reach 220km/h with the Boxster before breaking hard.
I don't have high expectations, as the car is still stock, but it will give me an idea of how it handles now, and how it handles after modifications (suspension etc.).
More tomorrow.

Bunchan... Welcome to the board! It's a beautiful ride and thanks for posting pictures! You look to have a lot of space in Japan... More than I figured you'd have. Also... You say it's a 90 model but it's got a non-airbag steering wheel. Is it an aftermarket one or are ROW cars different than USA? (Anyone can jump in there!)
As far as the idle issue you could search this issue. Your ISV could need to be cleaned.
As far as the smell... Are you sure it's an exhaust smell? These cars are known to have a fuel filler neck problem that allows gas fumes to get into the front trunk and cabin.
I'm sure more knowledgeable people will chime in soon.
Good Luck and keep posting as to the progress! And again... Welcome to Rennlist.com!

Car looks great - and lowered too.
Welcome to Rennlist.
The idle problem could also be a cylinder-head temp sensor problem.
There is also a great DIY on fuel filler neck replacement here.

Thanks for the kind comments.
Hmmm... maybe the suspension is not stock? Keep in mind it's a European model, not US, so will be lower anyways.
Sure thought it was stock.
Can the original suspension be adjusted?
The steering wheel is definitely aftermarket. It's a bit smaller and thicker than the original, better for track use. Also prefer this look.
About the smell, can't be sure now, still feeling high because of the fumes. Will sniff again tomorrow!
