Default Symptoms, what could it be?

Hey All,

A friend of mine has a 90 C2 5sp, got rebuild bout 6 months ago. Was running real crisp until friday, His car would lag, it sounds fine, but drives like sh*t. Symptoms are, minor back firing, sluggish acceleration, and takes a long time to get up to speed.
This weeked, I came over and checked his cap & rotor, and distributor belt, and when I looked under the car, only noticed oil dripping from the driverside lower valve cover (probably due to the cat generating heat). But nothing else out off place.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
GP

I would be quite uphappy to see oil leaking 6 months after the engine overhaul. There should be a heat shield between the cat and the valve cover. Is that missing? Oil leaks, and now it runs poorly? Time to get back to the shop and give them a chance to make it right.

As far as the symptoms, you could be in limp home mode after a sensor failure. Your friend needs to have the diagnotic trouble codes read to see what has failed.

Backfires might suggest a mixture problem. Air leak somewhere?

Failed engine head temp sensor causing the car to run too rich? This problem would appear when the car is fully warmed?
