Angry Sad ebay experience. Need some advice and clarification

I posted a while back that I had tracked down some "Boxster" wheels.
Or so I thought.
The persons post read thus:

"You are bidding on a set of (4) 17" Porsche Twist Wheels. I had these wheels on my Boxster but they were originally from a 911. Wheels are 17x7.5 in the front and 17x9 in the rear".

Being that they were, quote "on his Boxster" I made the mistake of taking that at face value. Now that I own them I find this hard to beleive as the offsets are 15 and 23. They do not even come close to fitting. Of course in hind site I should have asked for the specific offset, but I was certain that they would/should fit a 964 if they were on a Boxster. Can anyone tell me if that is NOT the case and they could fit a Boxster? I just want to be sure because if this is the case I have to tell the guy that I feel that this is not exactly a fair description. Thanks if you can shed light on this. Needless to say I'm bummed and out $500. Maybe I can sell them to someone who has an earlier car that these offsets will work with. Grrrr. As they say buyer beware. Thanks everyone.

Try posting on the boxster side to find out if they will fit that model.

Are the wheel you purchased OEM? If so they should fit. I know aftermarket versions are available to fit older model 911's and might be what you ended up with.

I would think they would not fit a Boxster either and you have a case to return them as they do not fit as advertized.

Did you pay with Pay Pal? they have a money back policy you might be able to check into.

Good Luck.

Pete, Yeah they are not OEM which aagin seems a little duplicitous on his part becasue he seems to imply that. They are in fact the Mille Miglias you can get at tirerack. I don't think the fit issue is related per se to OEM vs non OEM its just that if these rims don't/can't fit a Boxster, then he lied. They for sure don't fit a 964 unless you cut three inches of the fenders which I was hoping to avoid

My Boxster wheels are also ET 55 so I'd agree with Stuart and the others - sound like an early 911 offset to me.

Did you contact the seller to see what he said yet?

Pre model year 1987 911 offsets which varied around 10 to 15 up front and 23 to 36 on the rear.
These wheels will NOT fit a Boxster. The early Boxsters had 40mm offset and the later ones 55mm.
They are NOT manufactured for Porsche factory wheels either.
Such wheels were never used by Porsche with these kinds of offset in 17 inch sizes.
The first production 911 fitted with 17 inch wheels was the 964 Turbo with 55mm offset front and rear.
You might find an early 944/951 owner who would be interested. No good after model year 1986 for the 944 either.
Ciao,
Adrian.

Adrian. thanks. you (and of course everyoone else) were the voice of knowledge I was hoping to hear from. No Marc I was waiting to be sure o fthe facts so I did not go off at half ****. thanks for all the info. I will contact him and ask him how he thinks these fit a Boxster. Now I wonder if he even owns one, which is even more too bad becasue he actually sounded like a decent guy on the phone.

Default paypal

if he indeed said they would fit and they dont go to paypal and file a claim under item recieved but not as descibed and you will get your money back guaranteed. you must check listing a be sure it states that it will fit your car. if he said they were oem and the are after market you can get him too for that. do not stress you can get your money back providing he told you wrong info. i know because i am in the process of getting my money back to on a misleading aution.

Good luck.
I've had very little luck with Ebay safe harbor, BTW... they don't get involved with much unless it's very blatant - a situation like this may be too gray for them to judge... just trying to set your expectations.

As stated, look to PayPal or your CC company if Ebay proves useless in arbitrating this - hopefully, the seller will simply refund you.

Dustin I fear you are right. To be fair he does not say they fit the 964. If as he claims they fit a Boxster, and he does say he has pictures to prove it then I must admit to it being a case of caveat emptor, but thanks for the support.

Id like to see those pictures of those wheels actually fitting a Boxster...He sounds a bit clueless and probably is looking at a factory photo with factory twists on a boxster...
