Default Steering Wheel.....

Hey guys,

During my search for a 964, I have been driving a few recently (which has been a blast!) ,I'm finding only one issue that bothers me, that I thought I could get over, and its the steering wheel.

I have used a three point wheel for the last 7 years(on my old Audi and now my BMW 330 daily driver)and the 4 point wheel is throwing me for a loop.

It feels big and clunky like my wife's ML320 and I can never get my hands in a comfortable position. I guess I could get used to it but for what I thought could be a simple mod doesn't look so simple.

I just searched and read all the posts on the wheel/airbag issue and while i do not care to mess with wires and airbags themselves, isn't there a after market 3 point wheel with an airbag like my old A4 below?

The "mods" thread has a picture of a wheel that looks just like mine: https://rennlist.com/forums/964-forum/241615-post-pics-of-your-mods.html

Mine is an "AJR 3 spoke steering wheel with crest and air bag". It's not cheap. According to the records for the previous owner mine was around $750! A simple lookup on google should reference a site. I found one a while back.

I like the wheel very much. It's the most comfortable wheel that I have driven with. Of course, the car may have something to do with it!

Cheers,
Dave

I may be wrong but I think I have read where who have installed a 3 spoke wheel.

Sure enough, saw it very recently. I don;t know where this wheel comes from: https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...52#post2624252

I am sure someone will confirm.

I just received my Momo competion wheel - I'll go airbag-less as I'm concerned about the safety of a first-generation, 14 year old airbag.

I saw the one you mentioned on a search as well. For the longe term, I could maybe stomach the $750 and keep the OEM to put back on if I ever sell. I'm sure the 3 spoke Airbag wheel would have value also as more and more 964 wheels get long in the tooth!

I saw on on the Techart website as well. Not as pretty as the P-Labeled one.

Some just forego the airbag and put on a nice Momo or something.

I heard that you simply hit the reset toggle to kill the ! if you dump the airbag, is that true? Also heard there is a way to wire in something to fool itinto thinking it is still there. Sure would like to see the DIY's on that...
