Default 15W50 not recommended!!!

Have you guys seen this?

Porsche issued a bulletin not recommending this weight of oil!

Yes, but I read this as a hydraulic lifter problem which is 993 specific, not 964.....

Been using non-synthetic 20W-50 for years with no problems (primarily summer driving, thus heavy weight). I've had 911's for 16+ years- no reason for me to change now This is very helpful information for the 993 however, thanks for posting (who knows- many of us may own one someday...in addition to our 964s of couse ).

By the way, I also use 20W-50 in my Beetle, which takes a whopping 2.6 quarts with an oil change and has no oil filter (just a screen that you clean out which catches basically nothing)

I don't know, I just seem to feel a bit better running 15W-50 in the 964 Cup (might be due to the fact that my basement is full of 5qt containers of the stuff!), since running WOT on track tends to make the engine run hot and I don't drive the car when it's cold.
The PCA Tech Q&A is a bit hard to read/follow, but I agree it does seem to be geared more towards 993 and later models.
