Default Lowering - oh my god!

Just had my 964 C2 lowered - usual type of thing, 30mm all round. Without doubt I now love my car TWICE as much - it's virtually like buying a new car! Transformed the looks and the drive.

Anyone else had this strange falling in love twice type of thing?!

No but I'll get some done. It's not RS-low but it's so much better - and sits square now too. What was Porsche playing at when it created the 964 front ride height eh? All previous models seem to sit well but the 964 just looks too high for my liking.

Had to have the shocks changed too and everything realligned. The steering is much lighter now too for some reason.

Did you go for standard or aftermarket shocks & springs kusee?
The steering is lighter now due to your car not being preoperly aligned before i'd imagine.

I am considering lowering my 964 C2 and would also be insterested in exactly what you did and how much it cost. Do you notice a stiffer ride? I just got into autocross and want to start with small modifications.

Here are some details of what I did - not too technical I'm afraid. I was a cheapskate and tried to go for the cheapest way possible of lowering so aimed at just having lowered road springs fitted (from Type 911 - £188 for the set). These are 30mm lower than standard all round. I was keeping my fingers crossed that I could get away without new shocks which are the really expensive bits...

However, unsurpisingly it transpired that when you start taking apart a 15 year old car things go wrong...

Firstly I had to have new rear shocks (about £120 each) but managed to get away with keeping the front ones. Then the alignment was all-to-**** with the new springs fitted so had to have the tracking, camber and caster adjusted. Unfortunately the front track rods were seized up. Luckily the garage managed to free them up with a bit of heat and brute force so didn't need new ones (I think they're about £90 each). Finally I had the front brake pipes replaced and the brakes bled (this made a huge difference to braking feel and only cost about a tenner).

All in it came to about £700 and was well worth it. All done by Bill Insley - an independent specialist in Orpington, Kent - very efficiently and nicely (even though each phone call was to say that something else needed repacing..!)

I would thoroughly recommend lowering - transforms the looks and the drive.

Go for it!

I completely agree!! I had mine done (with H&R Sport springs with standard shocks) and I, too, was really pleased with the difference in handling. The H&R Sport springs drop it by 40mm but I don't have too much trouble with speed humps as long as you approach them sensibly.

Here's a before and after.

Dave

Not to thread jack...

Cumputamedic, what front bumber skin do you have? That is a beautiful car in yellow and the splitter makes it work.

The whole body kit is from Pro-9 in the UK (www.pro-9.co.uk) but is based on a Strosek design. Have a look at my web site for more details (www.computamedic.co.uk/Porsche). Glad you like it.
