Engine Suspension Mystery
Maybe it's me, but let me ask.... Here's the drawing of the stock (right side) and RS (left side) engine suspensions:
Note it appears that the long bolt goes through the engine support with a nut to cinch it up to the body. Here's the curiousity - When I look at mine, I see a rubber bumper in between the body and engine support which isn't in the parts diagram! I haven't taken it apart yet (and it may be part of the stock assembly, just pictured badly in the drawing, although I'd expect to see the large washer with a part number), however, was wondering if anyone else had come across this or could explain the part pictured below:

Bill, the right side of the diagram you have pictured looks correct to me, the left side appears to be, somewhat, a drawing of the earlier motor mounts...or possibly it's an internal view of the mount on the right??
As for your picture, is that something that's lodged between your motor span mount and body?
...if so, that's odd, my 964 doesn't have that, and I've had the motor out twice...soon to be THREE times - going to do some "secret" stuff while the tub is getting healed at the "magician's" shop.

Jeff,
The drawing shows the stock mount on the right and the RS (also pre-89 "sport" mounts) on the left - it's just a Porsche illustration to show both sets of mounts in one diagram. I've had a 1990 owner confirm he has the same setup as in the picture, that is between the body and engine mount there's an approx. 1 1/2" rubber buffer. I'll have to take it apart to investigate further....

Bill, to tell you the truth, I dunno if I really looked up there when I took my engine out last.
...so I may very well have the same setup, I'm sure I do!
I usually just slide under the car and stick my 19mm socket up in there and give a good GRUNT to break the nuts loose...never really checked out anything between the engine mount and body...I will this weekend now that this has come up.
