Smile Bargains on German Ebay

Like many of us I have bought the odd piece of 964 literature/automobilia off eBay (UK version for me), but today I had a browse on the German version searching for parts etc under Porsche.

All I can say is that there are some real bargains to be had from what I've seen in a short time including this although the postage for this particular item might be a little excessive via UPS to Chicago

There also appears to be far more to choose from too!
This is the link for the car related pages - Porsche stuff

Happy browsing

Cheers

I looked at that - looks like one of the front lips offered by FVD or Cargraphic. Being curious, I put the auction description through a translator and came up with:

After termination of the auction, we deliver you a Frontspoilerlippe for Porsche of 964 Carrera 2/4 RS vehicles. The Frontspoilerlippe is secured by means of screws and glue to the series bow joke. The handelsübliche car body - glue can be related against up price by 5,- Euro also over us.

Glue?? I might pass on it for that reason alone.

Interesting to scan what they do have for sale, however!

Be very careful purchasing from German ebay. You can get ripped off just as easily as you can off other sites. Shipping costs can also be murderous. There are also companies offering stuff and you bid for it and then get a little surprise. Been caught myself. Bill, that sounds like one of those companies.

Adrian, could you expand on "a little surprise" at all?

I've put a bid in on a 4 piece mat set for a 964 and am now wishing I hadn't?!!!

Dear Nick,
You will know when it happens. Some companies put products onto ebay. You find yourself bidding and winning and then you get the company contacting you. Some of them honour the auction others well may not or attach others things to the deal. For me it was a set of wheels. The set showed they had centre caps. When the wheels arrived they did not. When I contacted the seller it was a company and they wanted extra cash, a lot of extra cash for the centre caps. You need to be REALLY careful when bidding for large items. The costs of shipping are enormous and you simply get ripped off. I got seriously nailed with these wheels.
Ebay are normally pretty good and shut down these auctions but it is so common to find companies selling on ebay that you really have to be careful. I do not even bother anymore. I know some of these companies use employees or friends to bid against you.
Ciao,
Adrian

Gents,

The dealings I have had with Albert Fahrzeugtechnik und Design has been smooth. They are actually a medium sized racing team/workshop with good reputation.

Ciao,

Yes I could withdraw, but as i'm only bidding up to £25, the lure of the 'bargain' is too strong!!!

I agree with Adrian on the carriage of large items (I work in the distribution industry, pretty glam huh ) and would never bid big bucks but some of the trim and smaller mechanical bits appear to be potentially worth pursuing.

Thanks for the warnings though

Cheers

I buy and sell quite often on eBay but haven't been ripped off (yet).

You can find a bargain (e.g. 2 side windows = EUR 38 incl delivery) but often, the price reaches and sometimes exceeds the new price. I recently saw a new Targa outer that went for EUR119 which is what it costs new from www.mittelmotor.de. Most of the time, though, I find the final prices are more or less fair to both buyer and seller.

eBay has a fraud protection program that will reimburse most of the cost of a fraudulent sale (up to £120) and Christer is spot on about buying with a credit card if possible.

Hey guys,

Living in Germany, loving the cars and not having unlimited resources, I must admit I'm getting addicted to e-bay.

I've made about 10 deals and every one has been a positive experience. I got the bits I wanted and most times I've made contact with another Porsche addict.

The simplest check is to see what else the guy is selling and how many positive reports he has. Ask what the delivery costs are if it is not already stated. Also you should get his full name and address after the auction so you can contact him before sending him the money.

I must say shipping costs have not been an issue - a set of wheels coming half way across Germany cost 38 Euro.

The rule you must remember is bid what you are prepared to pay and switch off the computer !!!

Hi
Just today I fetched 964 Turbo sports seats in full leather I won on ebay. They were cheaper than what I received for my old ones and are in as new shape.
I am a regular bidder on ebay for all things Porsche, for books and I have also bought watches from the US or Australia at several thousands of USD.
If you know the market prices, set your limits accordingly and know what the item you are bidding on should look like, then chances are that you will end up with a good deal. Bid only if the seller has excellent feedback and answers your emails properly.
Got burnt once, did not stop me going on.
