Inability to get over 4000rpm - AFM?
A week ago I had a sudden inability to get anything after 4000rpm. I floored the car but it wouldn't go over 4000rpm! This happened twice aftermy car got wet.
Can the AFM sensor easily get wet and would this cause these types of symptoms? I know I've had these components apart before for cleaning but can't remember for the life of me what it all looked like.
It hasn't happened again since and I do need to have a closer look this weekend but thought I might be able to get a heads-up as to where water ingress may be making a faulty connection or where something else might be causing this problem etc.

I have no idea what may have caused this though.

Likely you were switched to emergency limp home mode. A drowned O2 sensor will cause this and in the 89 model you have no engine check light nor any other indication except it has no more uumph!
The AFM would not be something I would be looking at.
Ciao,
Adrian.
