Its a little more work but you could loosen the bumper bolts, all you need is about an 1/8" extra space to easily remove the mounting pieces. In any case, cutting the mounting pieces does not have to be a permanent solution as they are sold separately by PCNA #964-505-085-00.
Thanks for this - the clear replacements are cheap, but I've so far been afraid of irreversible changes - bit of purist, you know - knowing I could go back if I wanted is comforting for a chicken like me...I don't really mind the amber sides but confess I've always disliked the bumperettes.
