Post ***Contest*** Guess what this is...

...okay, so I was at the track last weekend and saw an interesting 964, one that would make most of us drool and loose control of any bowel movements.

More on that later, I'm preparing a nice "presentation" of sort.

Anyway, while checking this fine specimin of a 964 out...I noticed something peculiar, something I have NEVER seen in a 964 before, it appeared to be a hydraulic unit, located all the way forward, between the battery and the front wall where your jack would be secured.

Here it is:

Can anyone tell us what this is??

Adrian, you "special" 964 owners and some of our UK/European counterparts...if you know what it is, please wait a few days before posting...I'd like to see if somebody stateside can tell us what it is.

Angry

There is a high pressure line and non pressure line [black],
It could be a electrical power steering pump.

Am I right???

Greetings,

Arjan

That is the high pressure pump for models using hydraulic boost rather than vacuum boost on the brakes. All 964 & 993 C4, RS(not RSA), Turbo and Turbolook(not 993C2S) models have it. There are 2 versions w/ 3.6 or 4.8 boost coefficients

Only found on C4- I have one just like it. The pressure sensor, BTW (the geen cylindical thing) costs $200.00 + -ask me how I know! This is the pump that pumps horrendous pressure for the 4-wheel drive clutches, power steering etc. If you were to look just aft of that under resivoir, you would see a steel ball the size of a softball which I once in ignorance tried to bleed when I tried to change the brake fluid myself. I don't know what that is called- I call it a grenade. Never again, witout a Hammer!

A 12volt mini distillery. My question, how does it dispense? From a dashboard tap?

... I forgot to say what it is .....it's - wait -is my car one of the "special" ones Jeff was referring to? does this mean I should not say that it is the only known industrial implementation of the infinite improbably drive as definied in the Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy.

Porsche use it conjunction with their hydraulically activated computer modulated friction based velocity reduction system to create forces several times greater than gravity in the capsule where the IID is located.

...do you not feel somehow deprived as your car doesn't have one?

It is hard to pull one over on Bill. Anyway, you are looking at either a Carrera 2 Cup or a Carrera RS Club Sport.

DAMN!! Bill got it, and I must admit, when I posted I absent mindedly forgot that these high pressure brake "boost" units were on a C4 as well.

The car in the pic was a FACTORY RASPBERRY RS/Cup car, brought over from Europe, dunno the full story, but have a lot of it.

It was driven by some famous drivers and even had the map of Hockenheim stuck to the inside of the roof...cool.

I will post some pics soon, you won't believe how beeeeautiful this car was!!

I promised the owner I would get the scoop/details and post something neat...kinda stealing his thunder??

...I don't believe he will mind.

...and yes, I DO feel deprived, but not because my car doesn't have one of those high-pressured units, but because I want a RASPBERRY C2 now!

Jeff,

Someone in our club has a raspberry 911, and it really is a gorgeous color...with the track rocket refurbishing, maybe a little raspberry spray is in order?

I'd say that the car in question is more commonly called "Rubystone Red" by the factory or, "Pink"!!

If you are going to change the colour, then, like PINK, to go with one of a rarer colours, like Maritime Blue, Ferrari Fly Yellow or Amethyst Metallic which are normally only available to the more limited versions of the 964 like the RS or RSA, would possibly add some $$$$ appeal to your car too.

Okay, I dunno if that's "Rubystone Red" or "Raspberry"...but the owner referred to it as Raspberry, I think?

BTW, it must be an RS Club Sport because it had all the RS stuff (longer slot in rear bumper for Euro license plates, etc.) and it had a fuel bladder, yes a bladder, full factory MATTER cage, welded to the "A" and "B" pillars, the 17" x 7.5 and 9.5" wheels, and so on...a really neat car.

I have yet to get back with the owner and get more details...but what I do have is TONS of great pics of the car, inside and out.

The Track Rocket is done, it had it's first event since the "refurbishing" last weekend and did VERY well.

Truthfully, I had all intention to paint it Ferrari Fly Yellow...and took the car apart, glass/interior/engine/trans./front compartment, etc...but decided NOT to take it apart far enough to get everything painted yellow.

So I bagged the idea and went with the GP White that I like anyway.

I neglected to mention that I thought Sailswish had the best "creative guess" of them all.

...good one!

Well, back to working on my GP White Rocket!
