Post Boston mechanic

hi, just got some service work done on a 1994 964 C2 Targa I bought in November. Had the local dealer do it but seems a bit pricey. Until I get up to speed to do as much myself, does anyone have any recommendations on a reliable Boston area mechanic who knows 964s well?

There are a number of sponsors of the PCA Northeast region listed at http://www.porschenet.com/sponsors.html . I know a number of people have been satisfied with EPE.

Jason,

My experience has been that while the dealers are more or less capable of doing the work, their interest in air-cooled cars is fading rapidly. Many Boston dealers seem to really be Audi shops with one or two P-car techs, and you pay through the nose for their attention.

A friend with a 993 referred me to Jerry Pelegrino and EPE in Natick, and they've been excellent. They work on a wide variety of street and track cars (all Porsches), charge less than the dealers, get parts drop-shipped directly from Porsche, and will give you very helpful no-BS advice on which mods/upgrades make sense for the $$ versus when to say "enough".

Overall, the best piece of Porsche advice I've ever had, with the Rennlist link a solid second.

Jason,
If you are north of Boston, there is Autobahn Performance (Rick Hetherington) in Peabody, MA.
Very knowledgeable on p-cars, active in the PCA NER.
FWIW, I'm taking my RSA to him first week of May for the pre DE season overhaul/maintenance (fluids, belts, brakes, filters). My wife calls it the day spa for my cars!
South of Boston (Providence) there is D&F (Duart), Cadillac Drive in Providence. He did the PPI on my RSA as well.

There is also EPE in Framingham (already mentioned), Randolph Racing in Stoughton MA, Eurotech in Framingham, Stuttgart Northeast in Hawthorne, and Autosport Engineering in Stow....all of these are listed in this months's NER newsletter, the Noreaster April 2003.

Also, Check with Kevin at Randolph Racing

He does all of the work on my cars. He has quite a bit of 964 and C4 experience. He is inexpensive and fair, and he will spend the time with you to discuss options.

I've also been to EPE. I had a PPI done on my 944 from Rick at Autobahn (noted above).

Let me know if you have any questions...

Thanks to all of you. I live close to Natick so I might try EPE first. Much appreciated advice!
