Red face Window Switch

While I'm replacing that center console trim, I want to order a replacement switch for the passenger window. It broke just last week.

Notice the stylish Rennlist sticker in the window!

Does anybody have a part number or idea on price?

While I'm on the topic of taking the door apart to replace that switch, I need some advice on removing the door pocket. Last weekend I tried to remove the door pocket but got stuck. I removed all the screws from around the pocket, but couldn't lift the pocket from the door pull. The pocket appeared to be free, but seemed to be hung on the door pull. I didn't want to yank it off, so I gave up and fastened it back on.

Anyone have advice for me on removing the map pockets from the doors?

As well as the screws around the edges of the door pocket, there is one in the front of the lidded section, screwed into the rear of the door handle area. Open the lid, and it's just below the top at the front of the pocket. Sounds like you overlooked this one.

Wow - that was quick! Thanks!

...nope I got that one. It just seemed like the map pocket was hung or perhaps "clipped" to the door handle pull. The pocket moved pretty freely, but just wouldn't come off. It seems to me that the map pocket, in addition to all the screws, is molded or "clips" to the door pull.

I think those switches are the same as on the 993, and I am pretty sure they can be changed without pulling the door panel. I know that because last time I had my '97 993 in, the mechanic noticed that mine was semi-broken just as he was returning the car to me, and he replaced it while I waited in about 5 minutes. He charged me $21.20 for the part, nothing for installing it.

Yes, the switches can be changed without taking the door panels off.....just pry the switch out, and pop off the wiring connector.

Unfortunately, I don't have a part#.

Terry,

You may be hanging up on the cross-over when trying to remove the door pocket. If you look from underneath with all the screws removed, you should see this black box attached to the door. You kinda' gotta' wiggle the pocket off and over.

Hope this helps.

Eric - Thanks for the part number! I'll be at the parts counter Monday!

Randall - Thanks for the tip. I'll get my shop light in there and see if I can see if the cross over is hanging me up.

I picked up a new window switch on the way into work this morning. From the new part, I can see how the compression spring fitting keeps the switch in the door panel.

What's the best way to remove the old one? I could try gingerly prying a flat head screw driver under the top or bottom edge. Should I attempt to pull from simultaneously from the top and bottom? It looks extremely simple, I just don't want to gouge my door trim which is in otherwise great shape.

I just pried them out with a small, flat tip screwdriver. Just be slow and diliberate.

I am the absolute polar opposite of Mr. Goodwrench, and I did mine with no injury to car or self!

You were right BGL - that was perhaps the single easiest repair I've made to my car! I put shop rag on the door and pried the old switch up from the bottom side with the smallest screwdriver in my tool box - it came right up and popped out. The new switch snapped right in.

....now if all repairs were only that easy!
