Paul Weir ran an engine rebuilding shop in Seattle. His website phone numbers are all disconnected and a phone directory search yields nothing. Anybody have any info?
TIA,
Jon

Whilst on the subject - anyone know what happened to RUF Automobiles Great Britain? I know they've become GT-One, but despite searching the 'Net I can't find any info as to what happened..

Hi Jon, absolutely no question about it, Steve Weiner at Rennsportsystems. He is in the Portland area, but that's pretty close. This guy knows his stuff and has unquestionable integrity. I would bet a year's wages you would have nothing but a positive experience with him.

GT-One have ex-RUF employees, but are not affiliated to RUF in any way - at least according to RUF in Germany. They have told me recently that they have NO dealers or agents as such anywhere (in Europe anyway).
Mind you, when I get my RUF suspension kit I will be going to GT-One to get it fitted!

Just to clarify further - GT-One can order and supply the kits and of course fit them on a client's behalf. That way, you get a price in local currency as opposed to Euros.
They have informal ties with RUF, but not affiliated.

The feeling that I got having spoken to a few companies that have been involved (whether officially or unofficially) with RUF in the past was that RUF were/are not very interested in the aftersales process. RUF have been known to sell their products through an outlet and then if there are any problems or queries, not give a s**t about that at all and leave it to the agent to sort out. This if true, may have something to do with them not working with agents anymore. I don't know for a fact!
Why are you asking? Just out of interest or are you in the market for a kit?

My motor was rebuilt at Pauls. As a matter of fact, I picked up my car on their last day of business.
Over all I'm very happy, and I can be a real pain in the **** if something isn't done right. The quality of the rebuild was excellent. The machining, balancing, assembly was first class. No leaks and the motor runs like a clock. They had an exceptional machine shop.
The one area where they were below par was in the "fit & finish" and service related items with respect to how much they charged. They missed on the finer details of a putting the engine back in (bad routings & and some overspray).

For more info on Paul Weir, check the Pelican Parts web board. This topic came up over there when Paul's 935 project appeared in the Autoweek Classifieds. Some of the comments in that thread were from members of his organization.

FYI-
Walter Gerber, a very experienced motorsports mechanic who used to work at Paul Wier also has his own shop in Seattle, Gerber Motorsports. I think the Service manager from Paul Weir (named Mark) works there also. And there may well be others from Weir there. They are located by Fisherman's Terminal in the Interbay area of Seattle.

If I ever needed anything for any Porsche I would own, I would not think about it twice before contacting Steve Weiner to do the job for me. Straight to the point and always with a proper view on matters. The fact that he has tons of experience does not hurt either.
