Last week I got a leak in one of my rear tires so I took it in and my tire guy replaced it under my road-hazard warranty. Since then the car has not been tracking well and is very squirrely. It feels as though I'm driving through a wind storm - the car is really all over the road. The rears are only a couple of months old and I would guess they have a couple thousand miles on them. The only thing I can figure out is this is being caused by the additional tread on the new tire. Is this a possibility or am I just nuts? If this isn't the case, what else can it be?
Melissa,
Thanks for the reply. I do have the same tires all around. I just changed out the rears but left the fronts alone this time so the fronts have about 10k on them, the rears about 1-2k. They didn't touch the alignment or the wheel locks when they replaced the tire with the hole. I will double check the lugs, though.
Ditto on the tire pressures. I once left the dealership with the identical problem plus wheelspin. One tire was at 90 psi. If the pressures are ok, I'd loosen the new tire and re-torque it to be sure its seated properly and isn't moving around while you're driving. Good luck. AS
It's probably tyre pressure, but also were all your wheels realigned back onto the correct stud?
There's a yellow/white paint mark on one of them and this must be aligned closest (I think) to the hole next to the valve. This is to ensure that on car wheel balancing is consistent.
Don't know if this is the problem, but worth a look.
The other thing to consider is that it's a bad tyre or that it's not been balanced correctly, you also may need to give it a few 100miles to bed into the geometry of the car.
