Post The price of making a 964 from parts

Obviously I 'm bored - but I was wondering how much all the components for a 964 would be?? That is, how much to make a "new" 964 from parts??

Maybe assume engine as 1 'part' and gearbox too. Any estimates??

Excluding labour, I'm guessing about......£30k parts only!

Assuming engine / gearbox as 1 part each makes it too easy, since there are a lot of parts in there.

One of the bike mags had a figure recently for building a bike from parts (it was a feature about why insurance is too expensive). Can't remember exactly but it was something stupid like £40K - not bad for something that costs 8K new.

If you did consider engine gearbox parts separately - and given that Porsche prices are never cheap - you must be looking at £200-250K plus?

Hmmm... if this is true :

Breaking, 1990 RHD C4. All parts available.......

Henry Ford was quoted as saying he would gladly give his Fords away for free if he would be guaranteed the replacement parts business.

Would this be used, wholesale or list prices?

This could really make for a fun thread. We can each list items as they come to mind, updating the bottom line as we go along.

I'll start--using approximate list prices when known, otherwise guessing. Keep in mind that I won't be calling the Porsche dealer to verify the accuracy of my prices:

-Factory rebuilt long-block = $10k
-Exhaust system = $3k
-Transmission = $4k?? (a used unit is around $2k)
-Clutch kit = $750
-DMF = $800
-DME = $1k
-CCU = $900
-Tires = $500
-Wheels = $1200
-A/C evaporator = $450
-A/C condensor = $200?
-A/C compressor, rebuilt = $300
-Power steering rack, factory rebuilt = $850
-Shocks = $800
-ball joints (2) = $150
-Tie rods = $150
-rear tailights x 2 = $300
-ignition switch = $400
-Window lifts (2) = $250
-starter, rebuilt = $350
-Condenser/oil cooler fans = $200
-Condenser/oil cooler fan resistors = $90

Okay ... that's a start at 26,640, labor not included.

as of the Price list of Aug. 1 . the Engine is
34ooo Euros , the Gearbox G50 03 is 14000 Euros
and only in exchange . The Body is only for the actual modell av. and that is 28000 Euros.
The Euro is 1:1 with a US$ . I would guess thaat the 200-250 K US$ is a good number.

Randall

this car has no brakes, seats, dials, wiring loom, Pin-stripe interior (for Christer)...

I look forward to others adding to the price list as time goes on.

I seem to remember sometime ago someone worked out this for a Ford Escort (UK) or the likes and it came to about £70k.

There's actually an unregistered one with 1k miles in Top Marques this month for £35,000.

Search for 'Porsche 911' in www.imperials.co.uk and down near the bottom of the page you will see it!
Not in the Porsche link.
Cab, Turbo Bodied, Wimbledon green
If this was bought as an ivestment I think they lost out!!

It also has no cupholder. Considering that a place to put your beverage comes before superfluous luxuries such as brakes, add another $89.95 to the running total for a cupholder.com cupholder = 26,729.95. Suppose I also need to add the cost of a cell phone (before brakes).

Harald ... thanks for the new engine, trans and body prices. I had no idea what these items might cost new.

Slightly off topic, but I've followed with interest the series in 'excellence' about the restoration of that very early (late 40's) pre A 356 that they are restoring since 1997. That car was almost completely shot and they have had to replace a lot of parts and refabricate a lot of the body on that thing. What is that costing??? Somebody's got deep pockets. Granted, those are extremely simple cars compared to our 964's, but still...

Do we have any school teachers on the board? This would make a great punishment (sorry, I meant to say "worthwhile project") for any overly energetic and discipline lacking kid (like I was). Give 'em a copy of PET and set them on the local area OPC's and, as the saying goes, Robert will be your fathers brother.

(Well it beats having to write out 2000 times "I will learn to control my reckless willingness to interrupt Mr. Clough's latin lessons")
