6 Speed Conversion
Sean, you're MUCH better off to find a good used six-speed from a 993. Hopefully Randall "chimes in" on this topic as he has "oodles" of good advice on purchase and installation.
Supposedly there's a "Euro" box and a ROW box? Anyway, the "Euro" box has a better (shorter) gear ratio in between a couple of the gears but a like final drive ratio - THAT's the one I'd chase down.

Dear Jeff,
There is a Swiss 6 speed a ROW 6 speed and a USA 6 speed. The Swiss version is the noise abatement box. We call it the mountain climbing box. Final drive ratio remains the same. I know Swiss 6 speeds from the 993 have been shipped to the USA as have the 964 series of G50s and G64s
Ciao,

Hello Sean,
In order to install a 993 6-speed in a 964 C2, you should only need a new shift rod.
Here are the gear ratios for a select few of the various 964/993 transmissions. These can also be found in Bruce Anderson's Performance Handbook, in the section on transmissions:
The U.S. 964 G50/05 ratios (what you have now):
1st - 3.500
2nd - 2.059
3rd - 1.407
4th - 1.086
5th - 0.868
final drive = 3.333
The ratios for the G50/21, installed in ROW 993s (United States, Austria and Switzerland received the G50/20) up to the '97 model. The G50/21 is a popular U.S. 993 conversion:
1st - 3.818
2nd - 2.150
3rd - 1.560
4th - 1.242
5th - 1.024
6th - 0.820
final drive = 3.444
In '97, all countries received the G50/20 ("U.S.") gearbox. This is what I have in my car:
1: 3.818
2: 2.0476
3: 1.4074
4: 1.1176
5: 0.9211
6: 0.775
final drive: 3.444
If I had it to do over again--knowing what I know now--I would try to locate a G50/21. However, this statement is price-dependent
. I believe Gert of Carnewal has located/shipped G50/21 transmissions for guys on the 993 board.
You can read Viken B.'s impression of the G50/20 to G50/21 (actually, G64/21 = AWD) conversion here:

Eric's offer sounds pretty attractive, if you find buying a Euro G50/21 is too expensive or problematic.
