Interpreting Hammer Diagnositic Results
Unfortunately, I did not obtain a copy of the results. Only a verbal discussion of the outputs. I could just kick myself for not insisting on a copy.
Apparently there were 14 faults logged. I expect that some of them were old faults that have already been addressed, but were, for some reason, not cleared.
The faults included a handful of alarms and the following (any comments or advice would be appreciated):
fresh air flapper motor
- I've just replaced this #3 servo motor
L mix flapper motor
- appears to have been replaced recently by PO
R mix flapper motor
- appears to have been replaced recently by PO
condensor blower motor failure
- My AC is not running cold right now despite having been upgraded to R134a not long ago. I can get about 10 degrees F below the outside temperature at the center vent. I was thinking that the condensor needed cleaning, but perhaps the blower is out. I'll check fuses and relays, but am curious if any knows if the AC could generate 10F change with no blower? Also, should the blower always run when the AC is engaged? That would be a simple test.
oil cooler blower motor
- The car does not run hot so I'm curious about the oil cooler blower motor. Any thoughts on testing this? When should it run?
rear blower motor stage 1 & 2
- The rear blower motor seems to work fine. I've heard it kick on, though I don't know if the high speed has been engaged. Perhaps this is an old fault that was never cleared?
inside sensor motor
- What is the inside sensor motor? Maybe I got this down wrong.
evaporator temp sensor
- Is there a known test for the evaporator temp sensor? I expect I could pull the sensor and perform an electrical test on it. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave
The a/c condensor fan should run whenever the a/c switch is engaged, you'll feel the air out the grill in front of the left front tire (down toward the ground.) You'll get some cooling just from forced air flow, but very little.
I suspect the inside sensor motor is Porsche-speak for the little fan behind the CCU, which should run all the time with the key on and about 15 minutes after the car is turned off. Others may know better.
Then you clear them down and check again !!Any problems then seen are real. Its because the diagnostic system in the heater control unit is a little slow catching up.
So dont do anything based on a first time read.
