Hypothetical...C4 RS Touring

Hi Riccardo,
Yep all valid points. I don't intend to go Lightweight as I want a lttle creature comfort. Hence the thought of a touring version and the logical (I thought) comparison to the C2 Touring.
I did a lightweight project on my 87 over the past two years and while it was fun it certainly reduced the usefulness of it.
Thanks
Mark

Quite unhypothetically I would like to add that no 20 miles away from Adrian, such an animal exists. A friend of mine had his C4 completely stripped of its interior, except for two kevlar Recaros. The engine was swapped for a tuned RS machine and the suspension was modified for track use. He also fitted a carbon RS 3.8 wing, a carbon front hood and front splitter. I think he also has a macrolan rear window, RS brakes and brake cooling ducts. He now has a very effective track tool which he frequently races at Dijon - and drives to and from the track.
I bet he does not give a s... whether anybody thinks he should or should not have done what he did. After all there is Porsche life outside forums, too!

Dear Mark,
I am sorry you took offense at my comment. The translation of this comment is "I am not here to encourage any project or make you feel good about your project if I do not want to" If I think your hypothetical sucks I will come straight out and say it. Personally I do not care what you do with your 964 as long as you do not misrepresent it when you come to sell it.
I think you do need to develop a thicker skin and not to take things so seriously. I have seen all of this so many times that it is becoming repetitve ad nauseum.
I am sorry to read in your last post post about the misrepresentation bit. Misrepresenting what? This is just for fun, I do not get paid for any of this. In fact it costs me money. You should be sincerely grateful for the existence of these forums and the paid up rennlist members who populate them and whose money keeps them going. This allows people like yourself to come and post your hypotheticals and then complain about the answers.
Ciao,
Adrian

But then again, how the hell could you know that being a new contributor?
As my signature indicates, I'm also a fan of improving upon the specs as delivered by the Factory. I also think your hypothetical is a brilliant idea! After all, you're following a proven recipe for 964 greatness, so I'm sure you'll end up with something very special. Keep us posted on your progress (before and after data is much appreciated) and feel free to ask questions should you stumble along the way.

I agree with Joey just go out and have fun with your car and let your imagination run wild. Why does it have to fit into some kind of constraint set up by the factory and be called something.
To really make it an RS Touring with 4 WD, as the factory might have, you would have to install all the bits on the original 2 WD car such as: an aluminum hood, delete the fog lights with RS dummy lights, delete sunroof (if you have one), install the unique rear bumper, install RS suspension (monoballs, springs, shocks, trailing arms, front control arms, turbo uprights, stab bars), RS brakes, lightweight glass, etc. it would be one expensive project!!!

If Mark purchased the Carrera RS service information manual and purchased a back issue of Excellence he would see exactly what he would have to do to try and replicate a Carrera RS touring version from a C4 base.
The list is very long and very expensive and not really doable properly in a place like Hong Kong where there are additional difficulties.
The best solution to such a hypthetical is to get real and ship the C4 to RUF-Automobile and have it converted to a RUF RCT Evo. Cost around 40,000 Euros plus packing and shipping.

PS: Later this year my C4 will be converted to aa RCT Evo. Why? wait and see!

I suspect there is no C4RS Touring because its just not a paricularly good idea. Porsche must have just about every feasible variant of the 964 and the C4RS Touring wasn`t one of them - perhaps after the speedster and the C2RS Touring the person in charge of the dept. of bad ideas was given a "holiday".
It is worthwhile asking why you want to do this conversion, as I can think of no good reason. The C4 starts with a 100KG weight penalty and as such is not the best place to start a lightweight project, especialy as today 250bhp is not much, even if you ignore the extra 5-10% drivetrain bhp losses,
If you have a C4 and want to modify it, then thats a different proposistion - there are not many longterm 964 owners here who have "pure" Porsche 964`s, with good reason. Plenty of good advice here in that respect given in good faith.
The C2RS Touring was probably the most ill-conceived model in the 964 lineup, - why create something worse?

Dear Tony,
The C4RS which had only the 4 in common with C4 was also a creation of the bad ideas department. It was a race car without a race it could enter. It met no rules of any series and no new series was created for it. I am told it was created just to keep the department going during the turbulent times of the early 90s for Porsche. Jobs for the boys. I know of one C4 RS which was converted for more conventional track racing in France. It only raced one season, 1994. FYI the 20 C4RSs built never had VINs. Just chassis numbers.

Mark,
My C4 is what you might want to call a "C4 RS Touring" with a risk of getting flamed here now! Not many C4's are as modified as mine on this board and I'm entirely happy with every modification!

Hehehe Mr C4...you are indeed a brave man! You not alone however as three others have emailed me with specs for their cars that they would consider Touring (not that they call their cars Touring) just a comparison to the C2 Tourer.
Cheers
