Arrow 60,000 mile service???

What exactly does the 60,000 mile service entail? I have a 94' C2 that has about 53K on the clock - How important is the 60,000 mile service? How much (about)?

I'm right at 60K miles and about to take my 92 C2 in for service. The 60K service is a little more involved than the typical 15K service (which is basically a valve adjustment and oil change) and includes changing the spark plugs, belts, gearbox fluid, and brake fluid. My local P-mechanic also runs a compression test as part of the service, whereas the dealer does not. Local mechanic charges $1050; dealer charger $1300 but includes loaner car, typically a Boxster.

Is it important? ALL of the 15K service intervals are important, mainly because of the valve adjustment (regular oil changes are a given). Don't skip or delay b/c it may catch up to you big ($$$$$) time.

Cool

If you have some mechanical skills you can do most of the work yourself and avoid paying the dealer 1300 for the service. All in all it should be a 3-4 hours job (if you take your time) and a couple of hundreds in parts (plugs, air/oil/gas filter, the feeler gauge for the valve adjustment, the valve cover gasket set, engine and transmission oil, belts, some degreaser to leave everything sparkling clean, rags, I am sure you will find one or two of the clips that hold the plug wires broken, etc.)

If you have a C4 then you will need to take it in to get the brake fluid replace since you will need the bosch hammer to open the relays… if a C2, then you can do it yourself also. And you might want them to check for any system faults in the computer while they are at it...

I have an old post on doing this (I did it when I purchased the car and it only had like 32k miles). I will look for it and post it here if you are interested.

If you do not have the time or skills and want the peace in mind that comes from having a professional go in and do the work and identify any additional areas that require attention, then take it to the dealer (or authorized shop), or shop of choice.

If you decide to do it yourself you will learn a lot about your car. It sure took our relationship to the next level... <img src="graemlins/roflmao.gif" border="0" alt="[hiha]" />

Mr. Diaz

If you can do the 60000 mile service (or any other annual service) in 3-4 hours, could you let my mechanics with 30 years experience know how to achieve this?

thanks

Just as a matter of educating myself, I remember Adrian last year talking about the need for the hammer to perform a bleed on the C4. Can Adrian or someone else knowledgeable explain the technical details behind this requirement?

Thanks,
Jon

Christer, that was only for the following: Change the oil, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter, adjust the valves, and replace plugs. I did it during a rainy Saturday morning. My car also lacks the sencondary muffler and I had removed the bottom engine tray and side shields so there was less to take out. That helps bringing the time down.

Also, you will have to add the time for break bleeding and transmission oil change.

Remember that a shop gets the car hot and then has to wait until it cools down. If it is all covered they have the added time of taking all that out of the way and then putting it back. There are a lot of shields in these cars...

Sorry for not providing the context around the time I gave... after awhile some things are taken for granted...

I guess if you add all that to the equation you are looking at around 8 hours to get everything done.
