Post Advice needed:How best to prep thermoplastic bumpers for painting...

List-

The paint on my front bumper now shows lots of small cracking lines whenever it even gets tapped in a parking lot. So, I figured that I would strip it and repaint with a "flex" substance in the primer and paint. However, since it's a themoplastic, I don't know if I can use a chemical paint remover, sand or media blast, or have to hand sand forever to get down to base plastic. There doesn't seem to be any repair needed, so that's not an issue. Do any of you have any experience with this? Thanks for your response!

Mr. Krause, I have just gone through this.

It's a simple process, just use a poly-urethane color and clearcoat, a flex-agent is not necessarily needed but might help.

The factory paint is a one-step process which is difficult to duplicate, and not many paint shops offer to do so...two-step is the day today! <img border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" title="" src="graemlins/cussing.gif" />

As for using a chemical stripper, bead-blasting, etc. - NOT RECOMMENDED as you will surely get into the plastic construction.

A hand sanding is in order unless someone has a better way??

Good luck!
