Dear Syd,
Put the components back into the car and take it to the mechanic but only have him hook the Bosch hammer up to the diagnostic port and make him do some troubleshooting using the hammer. Do not do anything until the hamer has been used.
Please follow the old saying "Never replace anything expensive until it has been proven failed". The hammer check should not cost more than 50 bucks. This is money well spent,
Ciao,
Adrian

Thanks, Adrian. I'm taking the car in tonight and I'll do just that.

To update, my mechanic discovered that the metal jack, which was stored incorrectly in the front of the boot, directly ahead of the spare tire, had rubbed against the battery cable and through continuous vibration, had actually worn away the protective covering and was making periodic direct contact with the wires. This caused electrical surging and shorting, which explains some other mysterious things that were happening to my car. (Blown fuses, starting problems and the ABS buzzing) A voltage test of the battery showed that it would no longer hold a full charge, so it was replaced. The cable, of course, was repaired and the jack properly stored. No more buzzing, no more blown fuses, no more periodic lights not working. The reason that these problems were periodic is that the jack would move during driving and only when it touched the naked wire, would the problems arise. Total cost for this fix, including the cost of the new battery: $325 Cdn.

I'm a happy camper.

Glad to hear it, Syd. Another unique ABS light fix. Especially unique, in your case. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />
