Hi guys, I'm new to the 911 world.
I'm in the process of buying my first Porsche, a black '92 964C4. The car is Swiss specification. I did all my homework and saw the car: all the numbers match, all servicees were done by official Porsche garages, low miles, well looked after, ventilation for distributor is fitted, etc.
I'm just uncomfortable about all the problems one hears of the Freudenberg flywheel. Are the '92 models already fitted with a upgraded / modified version? Should I expect problems with this flywheel?
Thanks,
Dominik

Dominik:
There have been many threads on the Freudenberg DMF. You can click on the "Search" at the top (right side) and type in "Freudenberg" and get many threads.
According to 964 guru Adrian Streather, the C4s had the Freudenberg DMF, but it had the improved version that was also in the 964 Turbo. According to Adrian, these units were fairly reliable (9/30/02 thread entitled "Is the flywheel problem an issue for the '90s?").

Dear Dominik,
I answered your question in the private email you sent me. Jim answered it here for me. Engine serial number circa 718 built in 1992 62N series are all modified either with the LUK (C2) or the updated Freudenbergs (C4). I believe the updated DMFs for the C4 were installed pretty well from the beginning of the 1992 model run but I cannot prove it.
Ciao,
Adrian
