Question Seats not heating

Ok, I know its a weird topic to be thinking about in the middle of the summer, but I just remembered that my heated seats seem not to be working.

When you turn the little dial to any position there is no effect. I know that once or twice they had worked (nearly fried my bum!) but not after that.

Is there any reason why they might have stopped working suddenly (both driver and passenger)? Are they linked to the heating's temperature on the dial? Could I have pulled any connections?

Thanks in advance.

Dear Riccardo,
The seat heating has its own fuse. Have you checked this. The seat also has a thermostat embedded into the heater. This shuts the seat off when it gets too hot. Might be and I am only guessing that it is too warm already for the seat to activate.
Ciao,
Adrian

Thanks Adrian. I last tried to get the seat warmed up during the winter (when I had the windows open on a sunny day so I could hear the engine better), so no problems with the thermostat I would think.

Regarding the fuse, I'll have a look next time I can. Will it be clear when I look in the fuse box? I don't recall any relevant info in the manual. Its not by any chance shared with the glovebox and luggage compartment lights is it?

Riccardo,

The fuse for the heated seats it Fuse 25 in the front fuse box. It is shared with the Cigar lighter on RHD models. Is your car RHD & if so, does the lighter work?

Andy, thanks for the input. My car is LHD so I guess its a different setup, my cigar lighter does work.

I have the exact same problem; however, I know my fuse is good. Plus the passenger seat heats fine, it's just the drive's that has the problem. I asked about it in a thread a few days ago about 993 seats for 964s since we were already talking about seat wiring.

Anyway, Randell said "Your problem may be as simple as a failed delaying relay. I imagine the relay is under the seat somewhere. We could try fancy diagnostics, or you could simply replace the relay, and see if that helps.

I could try looking through PET to see if I can find the part number. On the other hand, you can simply order the part, asking for the delaying relay for your heated seats. The dealer parts guy will know what part you need.

BTW, if you're motivated enough, the passenger side uses the same relay. You could try swapping it into the driver's side. The relay you're looking for will be have wires coming from/going to the 8-pin connector and heater switch."

So, that's the direction I'm going to go. Have both seats crapped out on you or just the drivers?
