Can someone confirm for me the possibility that the L in my Vin no. means 1990?
WPO ZZZ 96 Z L S 4 0 1667
Somewhere else I read that K = 1989 so I assume (correct or not?) that L = 1990.
This is however contary to the registration document that shows the manufacture date as 1989.
Is there any way of telling the month of manufacture?
Does anyone then know the actual month of the changeover on the production line to the dual mass flywheel.
Thanks guys. Very excited as the deal on my C4 should happen tommorrow!
Cheers
Mark

The model year is not the year of manufacture. New model years always started being manufactured at the end of the previous year. My car was manufactured in 1989 - and was registered in October 1989. But it is a 1990 model car.
'L' does say it's a 90 model. For a C4, you can also check where the manual spoiler control switch is. If it's in the centre console (next to the diff lock switch in front of the gear shift) then it's a 90 or later. If it doesn't have this switch inside then it's an 89. Obviously, the 'L' is a better guarantee because it's always possible someone fitted the internal switch to an 89 car.

As for the DMF changeover, isn't there a current thread on that somewhere?
Good luck!

Dear Mark,
L = 1990.
1990 models were started on August 1st 1989. Deliveries started circa end of September beginning of October 1989. ALL 1990 models are fitted with double mass flywheels.
There is nothing wrong with your paperwork. ROW models normally do not show actual date of production. This is a US requirement. Some other countries may also require it. If the bar code on the door jam is intact you could have it read.
Ciao,
Adrian

PS: Here in Switzerland we have a tag which shows us when the car was imported by the distributor but this does not help you of course. Just for info.

If you have a poke about the engine or under the dash, etc., you might find some stickers like this one.
These show the dates certain parts were manufactured and fitted, which can be a useful pointer.
