squeaky bedsprings
Hi everyone,
Has anyone else had this noise? I have been getting a sound from somewhere behind the driver seat that sounds like someone bouncing on a squeaky bedspring. It happens over bumps or when the body is torqued (around curves, etc). Sometimes it doesn't happen for days, but if it is happening it happens a lot. It probably has something to do with the cab top, but I can't pin down where it is coming from. It's annoying!
Anyone else experienced this?
Thanks,
Tom

One additional comment - it doesn't seem to have to do with the suspension and I can't make the sound happen by pushing down on the rear of the car when it is stopped.

I get a sound like that from my (car) seat. I just slide it back and forth with the toggle switch and it goes away.
Anyone know the cure for that one?

I have the same sound in my Cab but I can't track it down. I have tightened all the top bolts and still can't seem to make it stop. Like yours, it is not a constant occurrence.

Feel inside the roof rail, i.e the thick bar above the side windows. Inside, towards the front (they're hard to see) are coil springs which attach to wire cables. These can get dry and cause a twanging noise on the move. A small amount of oil around here will quieten it.

Malc,
I found the spring and this morning I was able to reach in and press against it while driving and make the noise disappear. I'll oil it tomorrow. Thanks for your help. That noise was driving me crazy and it's so hard to tell where it is coming from while your driving. I really didn't think anyone would be able to help me from my description, so I'm really impressed. <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

I get the same noise from my driver seat too. It only happens when going over bumps or when braking and its definitely the seat as my car is a coupe. Like Joey, it goes away when I move the seat back/forward but then it comes back in 10 minutes. Its not too bad, but still anooying as its the only squeal I have.

I have the same squeeky problem. I never thought to ask about it on Rennlist. Hopefully your fix will work. Are all the cars this is happening to Cabriolets? Sounds like a common problem.
