Grounding strap life?

Grounding strap life?
If the grounding strap, in this case being the one attached to the right rear of the transmission to the body, appears to be really corroded but INTACT and the ends have been cleaned and well connected is it still good?Is there a life to these? My car is 89 C4 which has a ignition related problem that is causing my PDAS/ABS wo act up, and in the process of replacing the caps, rotors, ignition wires and DME relay, should I also do the strap? Thanks..

Absolutely change the strap while you're at it. It's a $15 part that can lose its conductivity over time despite looking alright. It actually caused some electrical problems in my C2, resulting in a very erratic idle.

Dear Drew,
This is almost hot off the press. When Michael bought his RSA into the publishers last thursday we put it up on the lifter. The purpose was to get some more technical photos for the book. We discovered on each wheel an electrical noise suppressor. Further investigation revealed that these are to provide noise or interference protection to the speed sensors. I highly recommend if you are having earthing problems that you have each one of these units checked. Mainly the earth connections. You will see that they are round beige coloured devices with a coaxial cable attached at one end and two wires at the other end. This device provides the shield ground for the speed sensor signal. You will also find these devices through out the 964 doing the same function for the systems using shielded cables. It was also great getting underneath a RSA because it revealed a lot of what and how Porsche did things and not having things like power steering and driving axles up front certainly made for a better view of things. I actually got to see things I had never seen before. I am only mentioning this because you have earthing problems or think you have and it might be worth taking a look. You will have to get the C4 up in the air though.

PS: Ground straps can also corrode internally. The only way to be sure is to replace the puppy.
