Question Competition - How much small change trapped in your seat hinges?

My seats were not reclining that smoothly and on inspection found quite a bit of loose change in the hinge mechanism as shown below!

On extraction using pair of tweezers, screwdrivers and pliers here was the result in coins found.

Drivers seat:
£1
50p
20p
10p
10p
25c US
10c US
5c US

Passenger
£1
1 Euro

Total 11 coins
Value in UK pounds - £3.16
Total value in US - $5.12

Beat That! Do not include coins found on the floor under and around the seat. Only in the hinges!

PS As you correctly suspect I am not back at work yet!

None . Obviously the previous owners of my car only used credit cards (and I didn't find any of those, either, unfortunately) or they had no money left at all after paying the bills for all the fearsomely expensive services in the service history.

When I cleaned my car out on purchase I found some very old chinese noodles, and the PO's bank card stuck down the side of the seats...had I been unscrupulous I could have beaten your total easy, John..

..also off work today...dum-de-dum

I've two young kids, so the best I find are broken crisps, toy cars (Porsches, of course) and the odd dried bogey

While on the subjects of seats, the back and forth movement of my driver's seat has suddenly become very slow. Any thoughts? (other than a Buzz Lightbeer jammed in the mechanism)

Phil,

Check the connections to the motor - mine was getting slower and then stopped one day as the wire had been pulled out of the connector.

Crimp on a new connector and it was happy again.

As for what's lost in the seats - Gummi Bears seem to be the most common thing down there - I've two kids as well !!

John, did you ever think of checking if your trousers have a hole? ...At least wear jeans tighter than Jeremy Clarkson and then the change won't fall out of your pockets.

Phil,

One of my seats also started to move very slowly, & then stopped all together. I unplugged the seat drive shaft & plugged it back in again & it has worked fine ever since! I think sometimes the drive shafts can get stripped & need replacing.

I found a ladies ring. It looked like it had been there for some time. No diamonds, nickel based, so no financial gain. My wife was rather quizzical, however. Now, if I could only explain to her, the bra in the glove box.

Not in the hinge but worth a post. About a year after buying my 965 i got curious as had original booklets for Sony hi fi Tape Cassette, 10 Disc changer that takes up half the boot and 3 separate amplifiers. This got me on a mission to see where the Amps were installed in the car.

I found two of them under the passenger seat but lodged between them was a solid silver Mont Blanc Pen. Was not mine but could have been any of the previous owners so rather than try and trace through the garage whos it might be i thought i would see if it improved my writting.

Well it did not stay with me long either as two weeks later I lost the thing as well. (Recently seen them in the shop at £260 so was a bit miffed.

By the way never did find the third amp so not sure where it is hidden.

I once found a Mont Blanc pen under the seat in a Caterham 7. Preferred the car to the pen

Have not found any money or Montblanc pens is my Porsche. However, when I traded in my last pickup the interior regurgitated no less than 37 ballpoint pens, the pencil count was insignificant. I guess that's what happens when pens are free. Roy

Ummm, better check the car in the morning. On a related topic, a couple of years ago we were getting rid of an old armchair that we had bought second hand. I told my son that if he took it across the paddock to the bonfire he could keep anything he found in it..... That was the easiest £25 James has ever earned.
