Got a little short circuit problem here. My right rear turn signal stopped working today. Changed the obvious with no luck so I broke out the meter and got started. I have a short in the wiring harness that goes to the right side turn signal, which I don’t have on my car. Just a dead end wire harness run. I disconnected the wire at the central electric (Green/Black at D22) leaving only the one BK/GN that goes to the rear right turn signal. With the one wire disconnected I no longer blow the fuse at 33 and all lights work. Before I rip into the front fender looking for this short because it will eventually drive me crazy if I don’t find it, even if it is to a dead end run, thought I would hit the site to see if anyone out there has had this happen. Thanks Mark
Dear Mark,
If you remove the indicator assembly which just swings out, instructions are in your owners manual, I am sure you will see the problem. It is normally a crimped wire or chaffed wire right within the assembly itself. Corrosion can also cause this problem,

Mark, did it end up being a chaffed wire in the harness? I have the same problem on my C2 Turbo, same corner too, but didn't notice any wires touching anything else. Please let me know what you found.
I've isolated the short is between the fusebox and the rear wiring harness for the lamp, argh! I was hoping it would be in the tail lamp wiring harness as that would be easy to diagnose.
Resurrecting this old one......Ive got the same issue on my 1990 C4. I just replaced the turn signal stalk assembly because the right signal stopped holding in place (a pin had broken at the base and was stopping the signal from holding in place when active) and now I'm blowing fuse 33 for the passenger rear signal. I'll check the rear light assembly for corrosion or crimped wires. Hopefully it will be easy to find there and not further up in the harness.
After much testing with a friend and coming up short on narrowing down the problem, RENNLIST saved the day after my more patient friend scrolled way down the following post: https://rennlist.com/forums/964-foru...ng-fuse-2.html
Sure enough, that pesky side indicator plug was the culprit. There are two red dot labels and one green. In my past attempt to get the trunk dome light working I plugged the red and green together (which of course didn't work). Undoing that coupling fixed the shorted signal and fuse 33 is still in tact today! The funny thing is that has been like that for some time with no issues. While replacing the signal switch I went ahead and replaced all the gage and HVAC bulbs with LED. That may have caused a change in the resistance. Here's a pic of the plugs if it helps anyone in the future.
