Angry Hairline scratches - Anyone know a good way to remove them?

At times I hate the fact I bought a Black 964! It shows up all the tiny scratches that the paint work has picked up in the cars life. Does anyone know of a good way to remove or blend them in without a respray?

Andy, from what I hear from various fans of Zymol and the like there are a number of products that are specifically designed to tackle those 'swirls' in the paint without resorting to abrasive cutting compounds.

Not tried them myself, so probably not much of a response really, on reflection..... <img border="0" alt="[ouch]" title="" src="graemlins/c.gif" />

Andy:

I use two products depending upon the severity of the swirls....

3M Imperial Hand Glaze or
P21S Gloss Enhancing Paintwork Cleaner

Then follow-up with a good coat of wax.

Always work product in straight lines as the wind would flow over the car. Circular wax-on/wax-off motion is good for more swirls and the 'movies'.

A great (USA) site for car care products and technical tips is:

<a href="http://www.carcareonline.com" target="_blank">www.carcareonline.com</a> I do not know if they ship abroad.

No affiliation, just a satisfied customer.

Hi Andy,

You should have attended the "UK Zymol Day" held late'ish last year at Richard's house in Cambridge. I also have a flat black (A1 - colour code) 964 and I have used and will highly recommend Zymol, they have a product called "Lem-Klay" this used with a liquid lubricant works wonders. I've never used 3M as Marc has suggested but I have read good write-up on the product. But for my money with a Black car you'll need to go a long way to beat Zymol.

Cheers

Gary,

I've been considering the use of Zymol too. Does the starter pack include this "Lem Klay" stuff? They advertise with prices form £90 to £180 which is rather a lot!

Does anyone know if you can buy the Zymol bits individually?

There's a good buzz about <a href="http://forums.rennlist.com/cgi-bin/rennforums/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=3;t=006829#000000" target="_blank">Zaino</a>.
From their website <a href="http://www.zainobros.com" target="_blank">http://www.zainobros.com</a> ( <a href="http://www.zaino.ca" target="_blank">Zaino in Canada</a>) it looks like it's only available through mail order, but certainly cheaper than Zymol. Perhaps one of you British dudes could become a UK distributor if you like it <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />
I haven't tried it myself, but will be ordering a bottle with a friend and giving it a go once winter passes.

I've got a Midnight Blue 964; probably just as bad for swirl marks as a black one. I've had great luck with the 3M Imperial Hand Glaze.

Glaze would be the product that you want. Then followed by a coat of wax. Personally I have had very good luck with Meguiar's.

To really make it look good start with a clay bar, then move to a very light swirl remover, glaze, and wax.

I struggle mightily with the same problems on my black car. I have very good results with Meguiars products, however I find them VERY difficult to remove. I will be trying something new product this spring.

I've had good results with my car using P21S paint cleanser, followed by a coat of Collinite wax.

I've used 3M Hand Glaze followed by Blitz Wax for years now. I've had great results so far. My wife own's a dark navy blue GM car that seems to be worse than black. 2 minutes after washing it and it's dirty again. The 3M really fills in the swirl marks and a couple of coats of Blitz helps the car look pretty good.

One other thought: After you find the products that work for you and get the results you want, make sure you use only 100% cotton or microfiber cloths to wash your car. Use plenty of decent quality car soap and water. Rinse the wash cloth constantly while washing the car. Keep a good coat of wax on the car at all times. This will keep from scratching your paint even more.

Hope this helps,
Jay

Hi Andy,

To answer your question: The "Lem-Klay" is extra it's £10 but is worth it's weight in gold on a dark car with hairline scratches. Yes the starter kit is around £90 but the products lasts a loooonnnggg time. The basic process is,
1. Wash car with Zymol "Clear"
2. Lem-Klay the car
3. HD Cleanse
4. Then apply the carnuba wax.
I can send you a couple of digital photo's off line of the results - I'm sure you will be impressed.

hope this helps

Cheers

Yip, to do it properly count on a full day's work, that's including in the door sills and body work in engine bay and rubbing Zymol leather care on seat (Leather care also included in starter pack).
