Post Bentley Publications - Service Manual

I saw the Bentley Publications Porsche Service Manual for 911 up to 88/89.

It does not appear that they made a similar book for the 964.

Anyone have suggestions for a comparable manual?

David - Not the same type of publication - the Bentley manual for 84 to 89 Carrera is a real service manual with descriptions and procedures for servicing the various systems. A year after they produced the Carrera, Bentley published a similar manual for the 78 - 84 911 SC -
-
The Bentley manual you cited, while outstanding, is more a a reference handbook for specifications, etc. It contains little description and no procedures.

Questions for the group: Is Adrian's soon to be published manual more of a service manual, with descriptions of procedures, etc???

Is this the type of 964 manual you are referring to:

** Note: link removed as it references material which violates Porsche's copyrights **

The factory service manuals are apparently great. That thing that you linked to is fairly illegal. The official manuals are approx $450 for the 964. That said, they aren't readily available at the moment, so I think I may (allegedly ) be placing an order for one of those...

Dear Chuck,
I have written a book about the 964 not a service manual. My comments on the factory manuals are already on record.
Ciao,
Adrian

This seems too good to be true. Does anyone know of anyone (nudge, nudge) who's ordered one yet?

Adrian - will your new 964 book be available for Christmas? If so, I need to add it to my "wish list". My wife does very well purchasing sweaters, ties and shirts, but hasn't a clue when it comes to Porsche-related gifts.

Truth be known, the factory manuals are OK, but they are not as good as earlier 911 editions. There are sections where the Porsche manual writers went out to lunch and didn't return. For example, there was an entirely new HVAC system in the 964, and it has the shortest volume (80 some odd pages) of the set. Other volumes, on the chassis and engine for example, are pretty good.

You can buy the 964 factory manuals for less than $450. I paid $315 for mine last year.

I am afraid that my book will not be out for Christmas. The pre-production copy will be hand delivered to me in Heidelberg on Saturday 23rd Nov. This version will be shown to certain persons on this evening. A pre pre production copy has been shown unofficially to a couple of rennlisters already.
The publishers will start their marketing campaign once the final set of files are sent off to the printer.
The actual release date and the publicity for the book will be handled by the publisher. I know what it is but I cannot tell you. Do you have wish lists for presents at Easter?. The original 250 pages have turned into 600 pages and the huge batch of artwork received from the factory also had to be incoporated. Lots of work but we are getting there. The copies for the magazines to review will be sent out quite early. I have insisted on this. You will receive a copy Phil for review.
Ciao,
Adrian

I've ordered a copy too - yeah, it may be breaking copyright law, but I've tried to buy a copy, PCNA can't tell me when I can get one, and I'll buy an official one as soon as it's available (I like books).

Dear Bob,
Thanks for the offer but this area is all organised by the publisher. I will only handle the stuff outside of the USA in the advice department. Like send book for review by magazine XYZ etc. Proof readers are all experts in their fields. Specially selected for this purpose. Two of them are authors themselves.

Adrian, I fear that you were unable to see my tongue firmly planted in my cheek as I posted my offer. I wasn't serious, just jealous of the other reviewers. I'll just deal with the angst and wait patiently. Perhaps I can take up smoking do deal with the stress of waiting? <img src="graemlins/jumper.gif" border="0" alt="[jumper]" />
