Dear Bob,
You are the not the first person to ask to do such a thing. I just wanted to explain that there is a fairly process in this. I also said I appreciated the offer joke or not. It is wonderful that so many people want to help. However it is up to the experts now to turn what I created into something of quality. They have done this and now it is being fine tuned to meet the publishers internal quality requirements. This sadly all takes time but believe me it really will be worth it. It can be just as frustrating for myself as well.
Ciao,
Adrian

Let's see. I agree with much of what has been said above:

1. I am not impressed with the Bentley manual. Much of the same info is available in the pocket size spec books published by Porsche. Too bad, as I have valued other Bentley manuals in the past.

2. The factory service books are pretty good, if pricey. They do have spotty coverage, in part because they assume you own all the pre-existing 911 model books.

3. I, too, can't wait for Adrian's book, even if he does not intend it to be a manual. Should be great!

I do want to add one thing: the factory parts catalog is a great supplement for all the books mentioned so far. This has exploded diagrams for all assemblies, including different versions (e.g. normal vs. turbo). Very handy for figuring out how things come apart/go together. One drawback: the paper volume has had parts numbers stripped out (I have sometimes circled what I want and faxed it to parts vendors). Or you can buy the mocrofiche version, with parts numbers (if you have a reader).

Well, well, my 'mate's' $18 CD arrived this morning. It's in a plain case, but it's got an official-looking colour print on the disc itself.

On it are 7 PDF files and an .exe file (I use a Mac so that's redundant), plus a couple of Acrobat Read-mes.

The PDF images are a little soft, but all the info is there.

I think this going to be rather useful...

OK, this is getting strange. Most of the CD is very obviously a Porsche workshop manual. However, the first volume is a 156-page history and owner's hints and tips lifted straight from the Complete 964 website.

Anyone know anything about this?

Dear Phil,
I guess only the people you purchased it from know about this. I wonder how many they have sold and how much money they have made out of ripping off Johns stuff, Porsches stuff and anyone elses stuff. I wonder what other cds they are selling and who they ripped the info off.
Whilst I was in the USA at Bentley they caught one kid has ripped off one of their Audi manuals and was selling them on ebay.

PS: I will not purchase any of these rip off cds out of principle. Never know what might be found and it is all stolen.

Well, I have to agree with you. I was very surprised to find stuff lifted from websites; I've now found a lot of stuff from Pelican Parts, too.

The actual release date and the publicity for the book will be handled by the publisher. I know what it is but I cannot tell you. Do you have wish lists for presents at Easter?. The original 250 pages have turned into 600 pages and the huge batch of artwork received from the factory also had to be incoporated. Lots of work but we are getting there. Ciao,

Just let me know when and how I can buy it......and, as ever, thanks Adrian for all the free help you continue to give to help us all enjoy 964 ownership.

Nor will I, normally. For what it's worth, I own two of the sets of factory workshop manuals, and I only bought this CD as a temporary measure, as the 964 workshop manuals aren't going to be available in North America until February (as far as I know), and I need them now - as and when they're available, I'll buy them.

Mind you, they are *terribly* overpriced. A bunch of grey binders and a few hundred pieces of paper - $450 list price! Absolutely *ridiculous*!
They're an expensive proposition even if you get them from somewhere like Sunset.

These CD's are pure rip-offs. eBay try to trap these auctions and take them down. Porsche Cars America are also very active on tracking down these sellers and eBay is active in helping them get a successful prosecution.
Don't buy this stolen IP.
John

PS My son was ripped-off on eBay in last Jan. Reported it to eBay, got a call from the police for info a couple of months later, got a letter from the police last month saying ripp-off merchant just got 9 months.

PPS there is review of the Bentley Technical manual up on My Site

Dear Eion,
I agree that the factory manuals are over priced and they are also missing key elements and can be very vague in places.
Seeing as they are not available until Feb in the USA maybe I can suggest you wait a bit. I think you will find my book is a tad cheaper (by a big tad) and will cover a lot of things. It is not a manual of course it is a book but you never know what you are going to get until you open it. If then you feel you need the factory manuals purchase them.

Adrian, I'll be buying your book anyway, I love books, and from the preview thing that I've seen it looks like it's going to be great.

I've got the factory manuals for 65-72 (IIRC) and for 84-89, so I'd like to complete my set, really, and since I've got a pirated copy of the 964 volumes already (and quite like them), I feel that I really ought to buy the real thing. Also, I'm the kind of person who likes to have all the available knowledge to hand, so I'm also getting the Bentley manual, and I figure that armed with that, the workshop manuals, my Alldata subscription (well worth the money, IMO, no affiliation, just a happy customer, yadda yadda yadda), 101 Projects, plus the *enormous* amount of help and support available on here and other sites/forums, I should be able to... well, finish my winter projects, at any rate. I hope.
Cheers!
