Post rubber strip on the front bumper

Hi,

the rubber strip on the front bumper, where it meets the hood, does not seems to fit tightly onto the bumper (ie there is a gab between it and the bumper on some places).
This looks a bit tacky.

Should this be "glued" on how is this fitted?

Toon,

Mine is the same! I think they warp with age, and the solution is to fit a new one which involves removing the front bumper. It's on my list of summer jobs!!

Andy
PS. It is called the "front smile" I think, costs about £90 for a new one.

In my '91 a 60cm square bracket with 4 holes was missing. I think for a not recent respray.

Do you have 4 bolts from inside the trunk to the bumper ?

The bumper should be held on by 4 bolts inside the trunk & 3 further bolts on each side of the bumber, accessable from underneath. You have to remove front undertrays to get to these.

Yes, there are four screws, accessible from under the hood. ALSO, there are two aluminum endplates that are RIVETED to the bumper cover itself that are made into the rubber "smile"...if someone has pulled these back for a repaint, etc. - the only solution is to re-glue or vulcanize the aluminum plates back into the "smile" to hold it securely.

When I took apart my front bumper, after the accident...I accidentally separated the plates from the "smile". Thankfully, my "new" bumper cover came with the smile, riveted up and intact...so I won't have that to mess with.
