964 Milage

I remember someone writing in to "911 & Porsche World" about their 964 with over 200K miles on it. I can't recall the exact number though. My 92 is only at 48K, but I hope to keep it WELL past the 100K mile mark.

A 94 C2 here has 80K miles on it. First owner used it for 6880 miles in 2 years. The second owner put 59K miles in 2 years! I am sure this is not the highest mileage 964, but recall its a 94.

I've traded e-mails with a person on the east coast that has 160k (+) miles on a '90 964. He now has a 993 Varioram engine in his car, because the heads were leaking oil so bad. Apparently, he couldn't go more than a few hundred miles without having to add a quart of oil.
My '91 C2 spun a rod bearing at 100k miles (car now has 108k miles). That's how my car came to have a 993 engine. Doesn't look good for high mileage 964's, right? Well, actually, not as bad as it sounds. As far as I'm aware, my spun rod bearing was just plain (very!) bad luck--not something that's particular to 964s.

The highest I've seen has been about 150K. No problems other than the dual mass. Porsches don't seem to get driven as much as other cars on the average, so it may take some time before we can really determine how reliable they are in the long run. Hell, I've seen several SCs with less than 70K on them!

My pre-dual mass '89 C4 has just passed 139,333 miles & is going strong - full top end job, new clutch etc but the original flywheel still in place! Suspension has been replaced completely tho' - obviously full-on sports job, lowered to just above RS level for some slight comfort on our ever worsening British roads.
