Post 964 purchase

A freind is about to buy a 91 awd cab with 31k.
Local P car dealer mechanic is saying it"s "cam shaft seals are leaking"????....and drum roll.......its 44 hrs of labor!!! ++++++
any advice would be helpfull TIA

Phil, is the leak up in the front area of the motor on the passenger side? If so it is the notorious o ring seal off the cam drive that drives the PS pump. Hard to get at but can be a DIY just dont knick the sealing surface and most shops can do for around 400-500$ The leak looks very bad like the cylinder head leaks because it blows the oil all around and down the cylinder heads. BTW the leaky cylinder heads everybody dreads typically dont seep or leak at all when the motor is running and warm, just seep when cold because of contraction rates and no head gasket. In other words, no big deal when motor is running and warm but can be used to significantly reduce purchase price because of all the negative stories around the non head gasket 964's...

we just spoke with the owner. The leak is on the drivers side, by the wheel???? TIA
