Fender/Wing to Scuttle Seal
Somebody must know the answer to this...
On 911s up to the 993, there is a 'rubber' seal at the top edge of each front wing/fender where it touches the scuttle, at the base of the windscreen.
The wing bolts pass through this piece and I know there is a special 'cut-down' version so it can be replaced without actually removing the bolts.
On my car, as on many others I have seen, the surface of this piece becomes pitted. Bizarrely, this often only seems to affect one side of the car (mine is a case in point).
Anyone got any idea as to what causes this?

John, it's just deterioration of rubber, from being out in the sun, absorbing some of the wax you undoubtedly get on it, etc.
Mine were sticky to the point that when I ran my yellow wax rags over them, yellow strands would stick to them like flypaper!
Now that I have my front fenders off, I have a new set to put in there.
The only suggestion I have is to order the original pair and cut the relief slots yourself, it can be done with sharp scissors...no problem.
As a matter of fact, I may very well do that to my new ones in case they act up!
