Angry 90' C2 Cab Erratic idle

Very similar issue as Arjan had/has and is now fixed. My 964 will die at a light. It will seem to "hunt" for idle rpm.....high and low. My Mechanic
says that the DME is "learning"....how do I reset the DME myself?

Disconnect the battery for about 20mins. When you reconnect it, I believe you have about 15-20mins to present it with a range of different circumstances (cold idling, hot idling, flat-out acceleration, stop-start driving, etc.) whilst it creates itself some new settings.

I have my doubts that this is a DME issue.

If you search here, you will find a lot of discussion about symptoms such as this.

I had a similar problem (coupled with periods of severely erratic idle) which was finally cured by a service procedure that called for relocating the airflow meter harness (there is a Porsche Tech Bulletin on this subject).

That said, there are other items (flywheel position sensor, Oxygen sensor) that can contribute to these sort of problems.

My mechanic actually replaced my Oxygen sensor and Flywheel sensor before locating the tech bulletin.Of course, if resetting the DME fixes it, that a cheap solution, right?

I used to have hunting and occasional stalling - new rotors / distributor caps cured mine.

I used JB's DME reset procedure and at the moment life is back in the fast lane...thanks to all.
