Expensive Plastic ??!!!
I decided this weekend to give the porker a clean and tidy up inside....I noticed how tatty the center console area was...rattly old cassette holder, worn leather gear gaiter etc etc.
As usual I looked to rennlist for help and advice, after searching I found a number of threads on the center console and started to look for some new parts to tidy it up.
Good Grief <img border="0" alt="[crying]" title="" src="graemlins/crying.gif" />
How come a few bits of plastic are so expensive?....If for example you take out the little plastic tray under the handbrake and look for a replacement you can get all sorts of shiny alu / chrome parts and also nice replacements for the casette box ut the prices are out of this world.
Surely someone ou there mut know a plastics company who can mold some replacement items and bang them out at at least half the cost of these suppliers ?
Any thoughts on this?...or am I just being tight?

MH, the factory replacement factory parts aren't that pricey...the carbon fiber -or- aluminum look products are.
A lot of 964 owners replace that silly-looking cassette holder with the $9 plastic tray from the factory...don't forget the cool little rubber mat that goes in there for a finished fit as well!
In the UK, I forget the name of the company...but it makes an inexpensive cup holder that goes inside of the plastic tray I referred to...check it out, somebody will hop on here and name the company, I'm sure of it.

Have you tried Type911.co.uk? There's another guy who does mainly trim parts - I think he's called Prestige Parts ??.
Last Month's 911 and Porsche world I'm pretty sure had some alu trim parts for sale in the classifieds - half price..and from memory included the surround plate for difflock/spoiler lift dials and a h/brake undertray.

All the parts should be available from your OPC. I've recently replaced the small 'bin' behind the handbrake in my '92 964, part number: 964.552.159.00 1DB, price was £8.48 (GBP). However, I noted that the part was actually painted on the visible side, rather than being a natural black plastic finish, and is slightly lighter in colour than the rest of the trim in this area. Not sure if a new handbrake ‘trough’ would have the same finish. My car had also had the gearshift ****/boot renewed with the genuine Porsche part (black leather) and it is very nice….. can’t stand shiny gear shifts and steering wheels
