951 vs. 964

I think it is also important to think about why you are buying the car and what you are looking for it to give you. I owned a 944S2 for about 6 months a few years back and I really liked the car. Now that I have owned the 964 for about 9 months I realise that this car really gives me so much more than the 944 did - and it has little to do with performance. I won't give you a detailed breakdown of the impressions created by the 964, because these are always personal and specific to each owner. Suffice to say that I wouldn't swap it for almost any car produced at the time or since...

Get both! That is what I did. I can't seem to be able to depart from either one.
Seriously, they are both great cars. They look, feel, sound and behave differently. First thing you should do is test drive both and then decide. The 964 will hold it value more than the 951. The 964 is a 911 after all, so it will still have that legendary aura of the Porsche history… The 951 is the best balanced car I have driven. It is a true Porsche, but not many people have the same level of respect for it, and that is reflected in the resale value. With a few no-so-expensive mods you could have a pretty fast 951 that would out run a 964 (but we all know that the difference is in the driver).
If you plan to get rid of the car in a few years and want to recoup as much money as possible, go with the 964. If, on the other hand, you want to keep the car and make it a passion and a hobby to look after it and do not care about resale value, either car is a good choice.

For 25 K you can get a nice 964, even a convertible. I would definetely go for a 964 and not an "older" 911 as technology is quite a bit more modern and more comparible to a "normal" sportscar. I don't want to offend anybody here but I did not enjoy driving my brothers 911 SC(even back when it was almost new), although I have heard that the 85 to 89 are much better. If you like your 944 and want more power, go for the turbo. If you want to be part of the 911 crowd go for the 964. The 944 turbo lags torque at low rpm, the 964 has tons of it - this alone would be a reason for me NOT to buy a 944 turbo. If you need space for your mountain bike, the 964 is a NO NO. Make a checklist with parameters and preferences and you know what is the best for you.
